Hi Donna,

I'm still hoping to make a trip to LA in late April and hit tennis with you.

Hope your ulcer is getting much better.

Take care and let's stay in touch.

Lynda,

It doesn't matter whether you're a 1.0 or a 10.0 player- the name of the game is

fun and exercise.

As I told you before, I am thrilled to be walking without pain or even thinking

about my walking as I did before my surgery. Being able to play a sport again is

a bonus, but walking freely is really the gift.

I hope you will achieve the same.

Good to hear that you are also doing very well and playing lots of tennis.

I wonder if the New Zealand player had an extreme case of OA or as you say

poor recovery. I wonder also about the surgeon's experience.

I was on a tennis course here in England last week. The director of

tennis at this centre is a New Zealander who was once world ranked at

about 120 (I believe). When I last attended (two years ago) he was

really suffering with his hips and I talked to him about resurfacing.

Since then he has had two BHRs implanted (in Eastbourne).

He is happy to be out of pain, but his mobility is really not good

and he has quite a pronounced limp. He does not seem to have had much

help with this - I urged him to get physiotherapy.

He did not seem to have been told much - had hardly seen the surgeon

who operated on him.

BTW - My hip coped well with around 6 hours of tennis per day -

rather better than the rest of me!

I was curious who the tennis pro was? My name is Teacher and I played

on the tennis tour from 76-86 and I'm sure if you mention who it was that I

know him. My left hop is shot and I am considering the resurface.

Thanks

Hey . Welcome to the group. ( is the pro I was talking

about who's interested in resurfacing). I knew you'd be concerned

about the pro from New Zealand, . I don't know his name yet,

although Simpson was the only pro I personally knew from NZ.

Anyway, I asked Vale who this guy's doc was and it was not any

of the big three: McMinn, Treacy, or DeSmet. That is a very big

factor in the outcome of this procedure, . Please don't be

discouraged by this pro's results. and Saeed are tennis

players who can also share their experiences and outcomes with you.

I'll be darn , and I thought that I am the only ex-pro with a bad hip.

I did talk to Wheaton, but his problems were (are) a bit different. I

played professionally a bit, before playing college, and a couple of years

after college. Just minor league level (satellites). If you live in LA area

you can visit a " big shot " there at the Joint clinic...can't think of his

name, but a quick search will lead you to his web site.

Good luck.

Hi ,

My name is Saeed and I met you in LA years ago. I am a long time and close

friend of Burr and Fred Silvers. I'm also a friend of Donna Kei who I

advised in her decision to go to Dr DeSmet. I had both hips done

simultaneously last July 2nd and I was hitting balls in September and I'm

playing hard sets right now.

I'm a big promoter of Dr DeSmet (over 600 surgeries) but as this board will

attess, there are many happy resurfers from Dr Mont, Gross, s, and

others.

Best of luck in your search.

Miren,

I went to the JRI clinic In LA , However I would prefer if I get it done to

go to the Docs with the most experience. It looks like McMinn, Tracey AND

DeSmet . Also it seems like Gross has had some good sucess.

Thanks,

I should stand corrected. Maybe the JRI clinic has had alot of experience in

resurfacing. If someovne has had resurfacing there please post. It does

appear that some doctors in Europe have been doing it longer.
