You willnot be able to receive ABA in the school system of South Florida. You willonly be able to receive 150/wk hours of speech. What does NY offer. I would check out the Baudhuin School in Davie. Hope you likethe Florida environment.

You can contact the Family Network on Disabilities, FND (), and they will help you with the IEP for ESE students. Robin the intake coordinator and Stacey one of the advocates, are excellent. I also have an extra booklet on accommodations, at the school level, that can be beneficial for you. Send me your address privately and I will mail it to you.

Unfortunately you will find that services of any kind are VERY limited in Florida. We actually moved out of Florida because of the lack of services and poor school environment. It is amazing the things my son has accomplished in our new school and state in one year.

We'll be living in Ft Lauderdale (off Sunrise Blvd) right near the Bayview

Elementary school. My son is currently in a Pre-K program now so I'll need to

find him an appropriate Pre-K program in addition to exploring Kindergarten

options for August.

I would really appreicate any feedback & information you can provide

regarding schools and ESE which we call CPSE up here in New York.

Thank you in advance!

I'm happy to have found this

Board/Yahoo Group. Thanks for acceptance into the group.

We're moving to S. Florida (Broward) next month from New York City. My son is

currently 4.5 yrs old and has PDD-NOS. Currently, he's in a center based full

day (5x wk) funded private school and we also have outside services.

I would like to request any help/info in understanding School options and how

the ESE program works. My son has a current IEP which I've just shared with

the ESE Committee along with his evaluations and diagnosis. I'm not sure I

will go with a Public School setting so I'd be open to exploring private

schools as well. My goal is to find him the very best placement I can knowing

his weaknesses/strength s.

Hello there. I am a speech therapist that relocated from Ny. I have experience with the cpse system in Ny and now work as a speech therapist in Florida with children with Autism. In terms of Pre-k programs many of the children that I have worked with went to Baudhin in Davie and other children were in what is called Place programs which are pre-k programs through the school district. I do not know much about Bayview elementary but wouldnt hurt to call them and ask if they have a pre-k program, etc. I worked with preschoolers for many years in Ny and when I moved to South Florida I found less options but they do exist. In terms of school age many of the elementary schools have clusters for children with Autism. Some children are able to be in regular classrooms with supports. I currently work in a cluster

program - some children are mainstreamed for parts of the day, other children spend the majority of time in the cluster program ( a smaller program with less students and geared to kids with Autism) I will be honest in saying that in Broward county schools have been hit hard with cuts, etc but good services and therapists do exist!- just gotta be an advocate and do your research. In terms of Ieps most of the children that I work with receive speech therapy several times per week- the most tx for the children that I work with is 5x/week for 30 min/day. In terms of private schools I dont have much info but will let you know if I hear of anything. Please feel free to contact me if there is anything else that I can help you with. I have experience working with young children and children with Autism. good luck with your move!

For the extreme amount you pay in taxes, you really think they could do more than they do!
