RE: Gabe's EEG The only reason we're doing it is he had 2 seizures. did not have an MRI or EEG or anything but some blood work done for his autism dx. The blood work was to rule out metabolic disorders and Fragile X. It took 4 or 5 adults to hold down, plus another one to actually draw the blood. There is NO WAY we could have gotten an EEG done without sedation from the very start. Hell, she had to stop and re-do the velcro several times for GABE and he is NOTHING like in strength or tenacity. And she was commenting on HIM. Holy crap. I should take in there just for fun. -Sara. who rambles a lto when she's tired > Why am I suddenly glad I blew off the dr about having one done on > Savannah? Guest guest
From what I am reading and hearing a single seizure does not warrant an EEG but definitely warrants a dr visit, check-up, & watching on the part of the parents for more signs. It definitely does NOT warrant being blown off. *sigh* -Sara. > Savannah had one seizure and I was blown off about it. Figures. > The only reason we're doing it is he had 2 seizures. Guest guest
> She said the sleep portion of the test is very important and they will probably want us to do it again. What, exactly, do they think is going to change? We could keep him up all night long and he still would not fall asleep that way. > and didn't fall asleep either. If this test isn't conclusive, then the next step is typically a 24 hour EEG. They SUPERGLUE the leads to the child's head. No it's not fun at all. But they stay on. 's was done in the hospital overnight, 's was done at home. He was too small for the recorder to fit in a backpack so I got to walk around after him for 24 hours carrying a recorder that was tied to his head by 50 million little leads....okay, not that many but a lot and no it was NOT fun and I am so damned glad I don't have to do that again. and did sleep for the 24 hour EEG but not much and not very deeply. 's showed definite seizure activity. (really? you think??) and 's showed some questionable brain waves that they just weren't sure about but felt did fit into the range seen in studies of autistic children. Well you wouldn't think so, but 2-20 atypical seizures a week, (One in the neurologist's office that scared his nurse so bad she ran out of the room and never came back) 2 pediatricians (who's witnesses said " breath holding " spells) saying this child MUST be examined and tested, a 15 minute grand mal seizure that resulted in a call to the paramedics, an overnight stay in the hospital over that one and the damned neurologist NEVER once saw my child in person. Even though my son was in the SAME hospital as his office for the overnight visit. The man prescribed medicine without EVER seeing my child. Yep, found another neuro just as soon as the insurance approved the move. They didn't want to. When I told them about what happened and that I would hold them personally responsible if they made me continue seeing this obviously inept doctor, they let me change. The new doctor is 20 minutes farther away but I don't mind in the least. So it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there. That's fine by me. Just got to wondering if this post was supposed to have a point.... I guess it's that there's a LOT of idiots out there that shouldn't be doctors.
