I don't have experience with bingeing (as I think of it), but I do have a history with overeating. And yes, IE was DEFINITELY the way out. i basically don't do it anymore, ever (almost). thanksgiving was the last time i remember eating more than i was hungry for.

i think how i started was just giving myself FULL permission to overeat. all i tried to do was identify where i was on the hunger and fullness scale.that was it.

no pressure to confirm, just to observe, " Hmm, i'm already at a 7, but i want to keep eating, so i will. " and somewhere in there, seeing that i had full permission to eat, i lost the desire to. (mostly -- at thanksgiving there were amazing desserts i wanted to try, despite not being hungry. and amazing as they were, i really didn't enjoy them because i wasn't hungry. next time i will bring a baggie to fill to bring home for later.)

i don't actually remember when it happened. it wasn't all at once, more like it became less and less frequent.i am hoping someone who has diagnosed bingeing might respond to you with his or her own story, but i wanted to make sure you heard from someone.

for what it's worth, i don't like to use the word " binge " for myself because it seems diagnostic and harsh. and really, eating one cookie when you're not hungry could be a binge, right? but " normal eaters " sometimes eat a cookie when they are not hungry, and don't call it bingeing.

food for thought, so to speak!please do keep posting. i admire your courage in sharing your struggle.all the best, abby

IE since 11/08

Hello, I'm rather new to the group, and I've been trying to use IE for awhile. However, I have a difficult problem with bingeing. I was wondering if anyone has struggled with this and can share some tips on how to stop. I'm beginning to despair and think that maybe IE is not the answer for me. But I really WANT it to be the " answer " because it makes perfect sense in theory and I don't have any other solution. Does it take a long period of time to stop the bingeing (after legalizing binge foods)?
