Guest guest
Evan, I apologize that I had forgotten we had another man on this board. Glad there are at least 2 of you. Sandy Hi I'm glad to say that you aren't the only man here on the board. I don't post much because of my busy schedule but I've been involved in this IE community approx 9 months. I mostly read the digests when I can (so thank you all). I tried doing IE all by myself after reading Geneen Roth's book and I crashed and burned really hard. I've gotten tremendous benefit from being here. My relationship with food has changed dramatically from when I started. I'm the guy who's doing this in conjunction with Overeater's Anonymous. I'm glad to say that this has been working well. Even though losing weight hasn't been my focus I've lost some weight. It's so great to put my focus on listening to what my body needs and taking the focus off of trying to change my body. The main principle I've embraced is eating till I'm hungry. I still have a long way to go on practicing all of the principles. But I'm taking a very slow approach to this. The opposite of dieting and the quick fix. Anyway, I'm here. Just so you know you're not alone. Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions or just want to talk. Thanks, Evan
Guest guest
Nice to hear from you Evan. Would love to hear more about how IE is working with OA. I did OA many years ago and was the most successful I've ever been in my life time. I tried going back and just couldn't handle the obsessiveness that many had. It was so not what I wanted. You must've food an awesome meeting. Alana Sent from my Verizon Wireless Phone --- Original Message --- Sent: January 28, 2012 1/28/12 To: IntuitiveEating_Support Subject: Re: New guy here. Guest guest
Arnie, Hi. is bringing all the men out of the shadows and it is wonderful. Thanks for sharing and don't be a stranger. Sandy Hi Just want to let you know there is one more guy here. I was posting a fair bit a few years ago. But I have only been readin the odd digest for some time now. I'm still doing IE and still have a lot to work on. I should probably make more of an effort to participate here. Thanks for posting and I wish you well ARNIE > > Hi everyone. I've been lurking here for a few weeks. I came across this sight after reading the Intuitive Eating book. I thought I would introduce myself before I start posting. In my twenties I lost about 40 lbs, mostly by skipping breakfast and lunch for a while. I was young and eager, and it didn't seem too hard. I gradually gained it back, and at about 35 I made another serious attempt to lose. I called it the ELEM diet, " eat less, exercise more " . I lost about 50 lbs this time. Again, it did not seem too hard, especially since I started running seriously at the time(eventually did a couple of marathons). Well, about 25 of those lbs came back. I had another surge of enthusiasm and lost some of it, but for the past few years some came back I have been struggling to get the weight back down. > > Anyhow, I don't believe I carry much of the dieting baggage that the book talks about so much. I never felt any foods were truly forbidden. However, I clearly identify with the description of the " distracted eater " , mostly in the area of emotional eating. Also, I have completely lost touch with what satiety feels like--when I am anxious I feel like I could empty the cupboard. > > Anyhow, after reading the book I feel very encouraged that this approach is the most healthy way to go, and I look forward to learning from all of you. > > --Chris >
