Guest guest
Don't feel discouraged Debbie. When you do give into a craving are you adding guilt with it afterward? If you are, then you are back in that viscious cycle of feeling guilt before, during and after eating something you want just to have it all start over again. I just went through a couple of really rough weeks. I've beeing trying to eat IE for a few months now. Just 2 weeks ago I went back on low carb and only lasted 3 days before I gave in because I felt so miserable. I needed to do that though because it was a great reminder of why I need to listen to my body and give it what it wants. Listen to your emotions Debbie, sit with yourself and really listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Sometimes we just get so caught up in life and we're in a fast forward motion and fail to listen to our bodies. Hang in there and be kind to yourself. We were out of town for a week and I gained 5 pounds!!!! I feel like I need to diet. Maybe too much freedom! I do like eating the IE way. I just can"t seem to get back what I had a year ago. I keep giving into the cravings! Or should I say, giving into eating more then my body needs. I'm feeling so discouraged. Debbie
Guest guest
Ah, I know well that feeling of wanting to diet after seeing the scale go up.But a reminder to everyone (and here starts my weight rant), I don't think it's physically possible to gain 5 lbs of fat in a week.Likewise, you won't lose 5lbs of fat in a week. The amount of calories you'd have to take in to do so is astronomical and FAR above what you may have actually eaten.Let me guess, Debbie...you ate out while you were out of town? At restaurants and maybe fast food joints, places that are known for their high levels of sodium? Which is known for causing water retention?I think you will find that after returning to your normal eating patterns, this water weight will just wash away... I had the same thing happen over the last few weeks, and my body FINALLY shed it this week after I decided I was thirsty for more water and not all the diet soda I had been drinking! Please don't beat yourself up over sudden weight gain.. we retain water at the drop of a hat. I frequently see my weight go up if I've had a recent rash of eating out, and it goes right back down as soon as I return to "normal" eating.Sara

Guest guest
sara, yes I did take that into consideration. so true. It's really not so much the gain as it is not losing. I now have 30 pounds to lose. I feel no end in site. I've never weighed this much outside of being pregnantSubject: Re: I'm tryingTo: "IntuitiveEating_Support " <IntuitiveEating_Support >Date: Thursday, October 27, 2011, 9:05 AM Ah, I know well that feeling of wanting to diet after seeing the scale go up.But a reminder to everyone (and here starts my weight rant), I don't think it's physically possible to gain 5 lbs of fat in a week.Likewise, you won't lose 5lbs of fat in a week. Guest guest
Debbie, it sounds like you are in restriction and diet mode, which is so easy to fall back into. You gained 5 pounds and now you feel the need to restrict and not "give in" to cravings. As long as there is a battle between you and food and as long as cravings are labeled bad and "self control" is being summoned, intuitive eating will be difficult. I would suggest easing up on yourself rather than getting more strict. Give in to the cravings. Don't think of it as failure, think of it as nourishing yourself and getting back to a more natural way of eating. The urge to eat beyond hunger will probably then diminish a lot faster than forcing yourself through restriction and negative self-talk. Just some thoughts! Guest guest
Thanks Barb. Yes, guilt and shame for over indulging and thoughts of good food/bad food. Which isn"t truth. I think being back home should be better. My thought was get a food plan. I guess maybe that's not the solution. Another diet. Anyone want to buudy up?DebbieSubject: Re: I'm tryingTo: "IntuitiveEating_Support " <IntuitiveEating_Support >Date: Thursday, October 27, 2011, 8:04 AM Don't feel discouraged Debbie. Guest guest
Debbie, it can be so hard! Diet mode is just so tempting sometimes. I find that I think of it regularly, especially when I perceive that I have gained some weight. I now just let the thoughts come and go. It's natural to want to tackle the "problem" straight on with another diet. Maybe this time it will work! Sigh. Just be kind to yourself and take it slow. You are already doing great by journaling and reading. Mimi Subject: I'm tryingTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Thursday, October 27, 2011, 8:29 AM I do find during the day. Well most days. I truly don't want that. Fix me, fix me, fix me! LOL. I do feel better sharing. I need not punish myself. I need to care for myself. Thanks for reminding me. I feel so much healing and freedom doing IE.Debbie Subject: I'm tryingTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Thursday, October 27, 2011, 8:29 AM I do find during the day. Well most days. I do well.
