Nowadays there's a pill for everything, and Drs get so much kickback from

drug companies for Rxing everybody everything.

I think something's wrong if you NEVER experience anxiety -these days

being a little anxious from time to time just means you're paying attention!

But women, especially, have always been diagnosed as " mental " - a

friend's wife died of breast cancer that wasn't diagnosed until too late,

because all her discomfort and other symptoms were put down to " stress " and

she was Libriumed half out of her mind.

My brain's in a fog and sometimes I will miss important messages. However,

when I see the words " too old " , I just have to comment. I got sick with mono

in 1990, the symptoms were really bad towards the middle part of the year.

At the time, I was still married and still a patient at the Valley Clinic

here in town. My doctor was Dr. Akker. My friend was still alive and we kept

in touch using AOL Instant Messenger and email. Whenever I would go to the

clinic complaining of extreme fatigue, the doctor would test me for anemia

and thyroid problems. Those tests always came back normal.

My friend, Jackie, who used to work at the same nursing home that I did,

suggested that I ask for a Barr-Epstein test. My doctor didn't think it was

warranted. But, he went ahead and ordered it. When the test results came

back, a different doctor called me with the results. He started out saying

that he had some good news and some bad news. Funny, when my in-laws heard

about the diagnosis, my father-in-law told me that I was too old to have

mono.

What really irks me, especially around here, is that if you have any history

of using an anti-depressant, of any sort, then all ills are attributed to

depression, anxiety, etc.

Recently, Nick has been experiencing numbness and tingling. So, those

symptoms are being attributed to anxiety. Funny thing, except in certain

situations, Nick doesn't come across as a person with an anxiety problem.

Don't most people experience anxiety at one time or another?
