Hi Sharon,

Havent tried neurofeeback therapy. Seems to me it would be a bit like behavior

therapy, teaching them to live or cope with the illness rather than eliminating

it. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. ABA did make a difference. It helps

the brain process better. It can be a different way to teach the brain, going

around the damage to input the information another way. Anything that helps the

body or brain cope with or conquer the symptoms can be good.

As long as you are also focusing on healing the body additional therapies like

this and speech and ABA and OT, SI and Floortime all have benefit.

If i had to choose between say Biomedical therapy or EEG therapy because of

money or time, i would for sure pick Biomed.

Does your son have an Ipad too? We have tried several voice output devices in

the past that never worked until we got an Ipad. He loves it. His " voice " is

right there with his music, his games, a few movies.

The Tap To Talk Ap and the ICommunicate Ap are excellent voice output programs.

The tap to talk lets you make individual albums with actual pictures (daniel had

trouble with icons in the past).

Hello Sharon,

We've done NF with 2 kids. We sought to treat anxiety, social language.

Our practitioner who is in the same building as Dr. O'Hara and Dr. Gail

Szakacs, and Homeopath Lee Stone has an excellent we site.

http://www.loricoda.com/Lori_Coda.html

She stresses the importance of doing a QEEG brain map before any NF therapy to

identify the areas in your child's brain where the brainwaves are higher than

optimum or lower than optimum. The therapy should seek to lower the highs, raise

the lows. She feels that it is important to be targeted and customizes the

protocol for each child (Note: not everyone does this -- ask the question. I

think it will speed up your results.) Also seek to work with someone who has a

lot of ASD kids, or a majority of their practice is kids/young adults. These

kids brains are different.

Briefly, the first thing we saw was a reduced flight response in my son who used

to be a runner or a bolter -- anyone who knows that terror knows how life

changes when that stops can appreciate what a gift that was. We saw that gain

within a few sessions, 4-5 as I recall and it's held. The next big change we saw

was a decrease in echoalia and replaced with the initiation of social language,

play requests which we'd no seen since his regression. Overall his attention

span also increased markedly. I will note that my son in particular is a viral

kid and viruses had a direct negative impact in NF results. Implementation of a

viral protocol, which we stopped NF for 2-3 months to fight virus aggressively,

and then restarted NF and saw gains.

My daughter, high anxiety PANDAS and ADHD kids did an intense 5 x per week for 4

weeks and was very calm, much more (but not completely) focused.

We stopped NF for both to address PANDAS with IVIG and look forward to going

back to it eventually.

Feel free to e-mail me w questions.

Take care,

I have done nuerofeedback. I found that it gave me energy, helped me fall to sleep better at night (I have anxiety and difficulty falling asleep), helped me think more clearly (less brain fog) and helped with headaches. I have found that most of these problems are due to food intollerance/reactions... but even with that being the case it definately did help me. Make sure to get someone who has been doing it for a while and really knows they're stuff. It doesn't really fix the problem (I don't think it does any way), but can definately ease the symptoms, probably helps concentration if that's an issue, probably reduces some behavioral problems.

good luck
