Guest guest
Hi all! I am parent of a now 18 year old boy (man?) with autism. I have long thought that the 'puzzle piece' logo used by Autism Speaks is too impersonal, and does not capture the essence of Autism Spectrum Disorders. I also share our frustration with the public for their ignorance of the condition(s), their reactions to our kids' behaviors. I'm sick of explaining and apologizing. I designed and patented an alternative symbol which I have used with great success on my own son's clothes. Here is an example: We were bike riding and he couldn't stop his bike soon enough and ran into two pedestrians about to cross the street. I was already across, too far to say anything. I saw him get in front of them and they saw this new logo on the back of his shirt. I saw them read and react to it, waving to me and nodding 'it's okay'. It worked and anger was avoided. The second aim of this logo is to help the public recognize that people with ASD have, can, and will contribute greatly to society. Here is the link to my website. Comments and new ideas are welcome!Carly Saxhttp://www.autismink.com
Guest guest
It is kind of amazing how that simple face sketch DOES say so much. It certainly somehow does capture the essence of autism.
