Guest guest
Rita, the words that keep popping into my head when AA defenders try these sleazy tactics are " sophistry " and " casuistry. " It's a shame those words have fallen into disuse, because the phenomenon is still with us. Just a short while ago one of the AAs on the AboutAlcoholism site denied that newcomers are encouraged to get sponsors and follow sponsors' directions. What was really obnoxious (and those of us on this list who are familiar with that About board will remember) is that several freethinkers had asked Buddy about his connection with AA, why he was biased in favor of AA, etc. He dodged the question by repeatedly stating that he was " not a member of AA " and therefore was neutral -- it was a while later that he revealed his Al-Anon membership. So dishonest -- kind of like steppers who claim Alano clubs, 12-step tx centers, etc. " have no affiliation with AA " . > > ~Rita > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------ > --== Sent via Deja.com ==-- > http://www.deja.com/
