Guest guest
I feel your pain..mine is 8 and we have been working at this for years. We used an insert for the toilet to get him over the fear of the big potty but getting him to stop being so comfortable with going in his pants is not so easy. I will be reading all of your replies for help as well. Regards, Darla Haskell Potty Training Guys would you give your best idea for Potty training. He is a boy and 5 years old. I am late! He is a big boy and does not fit in any Potty. He needs to use the toilet. Thank You, Jeannette
Guest guest
Since each of our children is different, this may not work for you, but I will tell you what I did to train my son. I allowed him to go into the bathroom when his brother who is 3 years older went in to use the bathroom. (So he could watch and get the idea.) We also went to the store and bought 'big boy pants " . They were special because they had his favorite cartoon character on them. When he out-grew the typical potty chairs, I simply sat him backwards (facing the tank) on the toilet seat. My son liked to take a book in to read, so I bought him a simple book w/ colorful pictures, that was about toilet training. Sometimes he would want to take a favorite toy in to the bathroom, and he would sit it on the sink. As weird as it was he would try to explain how to use the potty to his toy. It only took about 2 weeks and he had earned the 'big boy pants' for daytime. For about a week after that we had a few accidents for about a month but he soon wore the pants with the cartoon character on them all the time. I hope you will soon have success in potty training your son. G. > > Guys would you give your best idea for Potty training. He is a boy and 5 years old. I am late! Guest guest
Sorry about that, I meant to say ...for about a month, he didn't stay dry at night, but he soon wore the pants with the cartoon character on them all the time. I hope you will soon have success in potty training your son. (Thanks to the person who sent the offline note for clarification - I was distracted while writing and messed up.) Guest guest
Hi Jeannette, I created a 'Going to the Potty' program for the computer, that might be helpful. It is operated by pressing the spacebar, so your son does not have to use a mouse. You can download the program at www.hiyah.net. It's free, as is all my programs (on virtually every subject). Guest guest
Jayne what a great ideas! Thank You, Jeannette To: deniseslist Sent: Tue, February 16, 2010 9:16:14 AMSubject: potty training Jeanette: You are not late! My daughter was FINALLY trained at 6.3 and then relapsed after we moved. I don't remember any college, credit, or job application that asked me how old I was when I was potty trained. Most things are a challenge fo our kids. I read potty books and the best ones said to buy a wetting doll and have your son "teach" the doll how to keep dry. I also checked my daughter every 15 minutes and called in the band if she was dry and didn't react if she was wet, since this may have been a way for her to get even more of my attention. She still wets on purpose I think, it's very rare and she's 11. Good luck with this.... Jayne
