Welcome! I'm a new member, too, and I'm happy to get the opportunity to be of support. I, too, have had a problem with noise, and when it gets bad, I either leave the scene, or I sit down and listen to some soothing music (the new age stuff is great..my favorite is 'Secret Garden'). I focus on the music and let everything else go away. I have a fan that I run in my bedroom...even in the winter!...because it makes a 'steady' noise. I focus in on it, and then I fall asleep. There are machines now that have soothing sounds, like ocean waves and rain that you can listen to. When you start to listen for the more relaxing sounds enough, you begin to do that during the day too. Granted, some things are impossible to block out, and, yes, they can send one up the wall...like the 'boom-boom' of these loud radios in cars that vibrate your home's windows! Hope that helps. I have found that it's not my ears, it's what my mind is focusing on. Learn to relax. Get relaxation tapes. It's the fact that we are, too tense. Our muscles are always 'tight' and that's why we have this problem (so the doctor once told me). I believe him now...cause these things have helped me immensely. Hope you have a great day! Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. Hi, I am a new member and I am in the process of figuring out whether or not I have fibromyalgia. I'm pretty sure I do, or at least I have fibr-like symptoms. I have continuous headaches, joint pain and a burning sensation in my body. I also have not officially been diagnosed with fibro, but am in the process of it. We will see what the neurologist has to say when I see her in June. My list of symptoms, frequent headaches, muscles aching, joints aching, tender spots, IBD, GERD, GAD, balance problems, memory problems, fatigue and probably others that I'm not thinking of at the moment, is pretty typical for list memebers. We don't all share exactly the same symptoms, but we are all in the same ball park. It seems lately that noises bother me so much that it's hard for me to be out in public. I feel like I'll explode! Everything is louder than normal and even being alone in my apt., the noises from the street, or simply the ear noises, or ringing, from my head feels, at times, out of control and unbearable. If I'm remembering correctly, sensitivity to light and noise are also among the possible symptoms. I have both, although light isn't so bad unless it's alternating light and dark like going through shadows. You might want to do a web search for " highly sensitive people " and see if this sounds like you. It's definitely me! It's very difficult for my friends/family to understand b/c they aren't plagued by these invisible symptoms. I'm sorry that you aren't getting a lot of support. Have you tried showing them some information on fibro? I've been sick for a year and that means pretty much indoors, out of work, for a year. I read a lot of the posts and it seems like some of you work: i have trouble going to the grocery store. So i am looking for ways to get better. , I'm slowly loosing the battle to be able to work. I find I can do much more if I can pace myself by doing a little and then sitting down. I don't do any more than necessary on bad days. Please stick around, I'm sure you find some things that will help you. Darcy

Guest guest
Welcome, , we all are in the same boat. The isolation is hard. I find it very difficult to be around people because I'm in so much pain, I can't muster up the courage or strength to have to have a conversation. Kathy D.
