OK, I got part of it, what do I win?

Cristi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Risus sardonicus describes the characteristic facial appearance of a

painfully grinning face secondary to facial muscle spasm.

It is most often caused by tetanus

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------

Opisthotonos is an abnormal posturing condition characterized by rigidity and

severe arching of the back, with the head thrown backwards. This is such that

if a person were laid on his or her back, only the back of the head and the

heels would touch the supporting surface

Common Causes

Meningitis

Arnold-Chiari syndrome

Subarachnoid hemorrhage

Tetanus

Brain tumor

Severe head injury

Glutaric aciduria and organic acidemias

Gaucher disease

Krabbe Disease

Achondroplastic dwarfism (occasionally)

Drugs, particularly phenothiazines and other antipsychotic medications, can

cause a side effect known as acute dystonic reaction. Opisthotonos may be part

of this reaction.

Ah, Christi, congratulations. You've got one part of it, so you win the

pneumatic nose-hair trimmer (this can be run off your M cylinder or connected

directly to your Hurst Tool with a special attachment.)

Now, in order to get the first prize, the Liberace collection, you must get the

other condition that I was looking for. Hint: look under " poison. "

Au contraire. We are a part of the care team, and we tell the nurse that we

will not touch the patient until the records are copied and given us.

We tell her we'll give her 5 minutes, then we're leaving and reporting her to

the Board of Nurse Examiners for endangering a patient.

She calls her Privacy Officer who tells her to give us the records.

After delivering her patient to the other hospital, we go online and subscribe

to " Hustler " in her name and have it sent to " ICU Waiting Room, Wormswiggle

Medical Center, " the transferring hospital. We also have multi-colored condoms

printed with her name on them and spread them all through the hospital and at

her church.

At which point you open it in front of her, read the information, and walk

out.

Why can't we just all GET ALONG??? ;-)

I SINCERELY hope (all kidding aside) that those of us who chose ER nursing

AFTER we've been in EMS, remember what it's like and don't act like Gene's

hypothetical yet VERY real RN.
