Guest guest
Hi, Christy - Isn't that the pits? We FINALLY get off the LID and are all ready to enjoy our favorite foods, and YUCK!!! It should pass soon. Mine lasted about a week (it was more a salty taste to everything). While I recall one person saying that it took about 6 months for hers to return, for most people it returns gradually over several weeks to a month. Hang in there - that pizza will taste good again!! Guest guest
Hi Christy: You have already gotten one good response, but will add mine so you will know you are not alone with this experience. i too " no taste " following RAI, when i could finally eat regular food, i joked with a friend of mine, given my extreme tiredness, i might as well eat the cheapest TV dinners available, since everything tasted like cardboard anyway. Save the " good " stuff for when i could enjoy it again. :-) As i recall it took a couple months for mine to come back. When yours do, indulge in your very favorite food! Are you doing ok otherwise? Keep hanging in there, it should get better soon! Sharon TT june 2001 papillary stage 3 RAI july 2001 177 mcs am going hypo right now for 1st follow up scan Liberty/KC metro area > I am currently experiencing problems with my taste buds after > receiving 150mCi of RAI treatment on August 29th. Alisa has already confirmed that chapped lips and dry skin are part of the hypo experience. Upset stomach is a hypo symptom, too. Nausea & indigestion are not uncommon hypo symptoms - your entire metabolism has slowed down, including digestion. Eating small meals might help. Also, ginger in any form is recommended for nausea (ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger snaps, ginger candy). Digestive enzymes and/or antacids may help, too. As for drooling ... that's the first time, I think, that someone has complained about that. It may be that your salivary glands are working a bit overtime, perhaps encouraged by your doing all the right post-RAI things (drinking lots of water, sucking sour candies, etc.). It may be inconvenient, but it's a good thing, and should help you avoid the salivary gland problems that some suffer after treatment. I imagine it's possible, too, that if your lips are extremely chapped, they may not be sealing shut as snugly as lips tend to do. It should all settle down pretty quickly. Good luck - NYC TT 2/99 dx pap/foll; RAI 100 mCi 3/99 & 4/00; clean scan 3/02; current TSH ~.06 on .225 levothyroxine >
