Guest guest
That's what it sounds like. I had one under my right breast when Rowan was 4 weeks old. ouch. I nursed him and Keely (thank gawd for nursing toddlers they sure know how to drain a breast lol) in a football hold on that side so their chin was in the direction of the plugged duct and it felt better after a couple of days. I never had any problems with Keely so that was al new to me too! BTW, I went to the dentist tonight for a cleaning, was gone an hour, and stayed home with all three kids, Rowan slept on his chest the whole time I was gone! Michele Ok, when other people have problems, it's easy to asses, but when I do....Ihave no clue! HELP!This evening my right breast is so tender. There is a large lump (I'd saythe size of a small egg) at 12 o'clock about 1/2 inch above my areola. Itfeels almost bruised!! It hurts to nurse as well. I tried expressing somemilk on that side (thinking maybe clogged duct?) and I got some pinkish milk(blood) from one of the 'holes'Is this what a clogged duct feels like? Sheesh, I'm almost a veteran and Ihave never had any real problems!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
, Sounds like a clogged duct. I would use heat applications, hot showers, massage, compression and lots of rest and relaxation. A nurse-in wouldn't hurt. Take care of yourself, boost your immune system. Nurse in different positions. Try positioning your baby's chin toward the lump, and nurse, nurse, nurse. Also laying baby on the bed and leaning over and nursing over him with breasts dangling and letting gravity help with the plug. Good luck and make sure to take care of yourself. Guest guest
, you can go see your OB, or a family practice.. I would go right away.. when you get feverish it means the infection is in your lymph system which isn't good.. I just got over this same thing so I know how awful you are feeling Take care Christi

Last night I felt feverish and now the sore area is red! (well not bright, but it looks sunburned) Who would I go see to have it checked out if it doesn't get better? Guest guest
, I would suggest you get some Belladonna homeopathic remedy. (health food store) It works well for mastitis. Keep up the rest and nursing. If you tend toward conventional medicine than you would see your doc and they will probably prescribe antibiotics. I have seen Belladonna work quicker than antibiotics though and you can take it while on antibiotics. If you do get antibiotics make sure you also take some acidophilus so you don't get thrush. Just really take care of yourself, go to bed! Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Re: OUCH!! > Sounds like a clogged duct. Guest guest
Thanks very much everyone...it's so strange, 19 months no problems, then this! I'm going to see how it goes tonight and if it's still the same tomorrow I'll go get the 'belladonna' I hate antibiotics Gazley Mom to (Oct 8, 1998) http://www.members.home.net/lgazley Re: OUCH!! > > > > Sounds like a clogged duct. See if in the next few days, you can spend some more time with your feet up. Mastitis will feel like you have a mild cold or flu initially. If your breasts get hot or swollen, you need to act quickly on clearing the ducts (nurse lots and lots and lots). Your milk is still safe for your toddler, even if you have blood or an infected duct. (Gross to consider but true!)
