Jill,

My heart goes out to you. I tried Prednisone a few years ago, and I didn't

do well on it at all, so I completely understand. I hope it gets better for

you and does its job.

I think that's pretty common with prednisone. I had to take oral prednisone

for a week, a couple of times - once for asthma, and another time after I

had a serious allergic reaction to an ACE inhibitor. That was about 8 years

ago, but I do recall it made me feel pretty jittery.

Hey Jill,

The secret is to place each pill on the center of your tongue then wash

down with a ton of water without letting it touch anyother place in your

mouth. Yes they do taste horrid. Taking them after you eat or mid meal

seems to help with the stomach upset.

I was also very anxious when I first started taking the pred. My heart

would race at night and I could only sleep for about 5 hours at a time. I

would nap during the day for about an hour to keep myself from falling over

later in the afternoon. It took about a month for the anxiety stuff to

level off and for me to stop jumping at every little noise.

Like said it is very important to take it at the same time every

day and to be weaned off it slowly. It's a nasty little drug but it does

work wonders for some of us. So far it's brought my protein level down from

a +3 to 0.5 in about 5 months. For me the side effects are worth that

alone.

They need to put a 5 second coating over the prednisone. I noticed

that it desolves the second it hits your tongue and it took me 3

tries the first time to get them all down. I have had a lot of heart

burn since starting the prednisone last Friday but no upset tummy. I

can't take it at night or I feel like a fire breathing dragon. I

have noticed some anxiety and depression but I don't really blame the

prednisone for that. I have also noticed that I have a salt craving

like I've never had in my life.

Good luck with the insurance co, my co won't give an inch on some

things. I'm supposed to be on an acid reducer for my reflux but it's

almost $100 for a 30 day supply and since it's not covered I sit and

chew a lot of rolaids.

My boyfriend says he's " trading me in for a less crabby one " , I hope

she knows how to do my laundry. I figure he knew I had this 6 and a

half years when we met, he chooses to put up with me. (Now that's

either stupidity or love.)

Hi,

Here's a solution for the taste problem. complained a lot about the

taste of pred so I picked up the empty gelatin capsules from the health food

store. Three 60 mg pred tablets fit snugly into the emply gelatin capsule.

That instant dissolving effect sounded awful. Fortunately, at least that

much is easy to deal with!

Good luck.

Cy that is a great idea. They even make capsules for vegetarians out of

vegetable starch...I have some empty ones here that I use for herbals. I

think I might start using them with my pred. :o) Thanks for the great tip!

Thanks Amy. Even the renal world needs a Martha !

BTW, what happened with that flare up of yours? I've been away from my

email for an embarrassingly long time and there's no way I can catch up on

the backload - last I heard you had an unexplained flareup. Did that

subside? Is everything OK?

Thanks Amy. Even the renal world needs a Martha !

BTW, what happened with that flare up of yours? I've been away from my

email for an embarrassingly long time and there's no way I can catch up on

the backload - last I heard you had an unexplained flareup. Did that

subside? Is everything OK?

Hi Jill,

I'm sorry the prednisone side effects have affected you in this

way. I did hear that the anxiety and nervousness was a side effect

of prednisone.

I have been ok so far (i've been taking it for 2 wks), just that my

face is filling out somewhat. I've been doing an hour long walk

everyday now as well as dancing 3 times a week.

I hope that things will get better for you, sometimes the side

effects will go away after you get used to the prednisone.

I was as high as a kite on Prednisone for about a couple of weeks when taking

it for the first time - I flew round the house doing housework but it soon

settled down and I am back to my normal calm self now.

Re: Re: Pardon my whine, but Prednisone sucks!

Cy that is a great idea. They even make capsules for vegetarians out of

vegetable starch...I have some empty ones here that I use for herbals. I

think I might start using them with my pred. :o) Thanks for the great

tip!
