I'm a nanny to a child who goes those. The school is wonderful! He is in a regular classroom with an aide at all times. The teachers are great... He gets his services. All children on the spectrum get included in every active that goes on at the school. Which is a plus! It get them out there. The autism coach is awesome! The school raises awareness and raises money for the autism classes and for their students... The autism coach is amazing and really knows autism, is very positive and is a great advocate for our kids. She has worked diligently with the school to ensure that best practices in autism are being implemented. I was going to send my son to that school just for her.

To add a little more. She helpful like you can believe! Respectful and honest. She really loves her job and the kids!! And great example was field day. She outside with the kids for a whole week with all grade levels. She was jumping running, climbing, crawling, cheering, you name it... And the kids adore her :) :) Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerryDate: Fri, 26 Feb 2010 09:34:38 -0500To: <sList >Subject: Re: Silver Lakes Miramar? I've heard good things about her. She was a cluster teacher, and knows alot about autism.

The coach last year was horrible..........many parents complained and she was removed.

What grade is your child in? I have a close contact with the PLACE (pre-K) teacher, as well as the cluster Kindergarten teacher, and the autism coach. If you have specific questions, I can pass your info along to them.My son has attended this school for the past 3 years, and we are very happy with it now. When we started there, they had some issues with the program preventing them from being effective and causing me some frustration, but it seems they have since corrected those issues and we are extremely happy with them now.The teachers & therapists are very loving and truly care about our children, they are also very well trained, experienced, and effective in working with children with special needs. Most of the parents I have been in contact with through the school are very

active and involved in their child's education. We do lots of field trips throughout the year, and even attend 'Swim Central' which is a 2 week course at the local pool where they teach our kids how to swim (free of charge.) I would say overall it is a fantastic environment. My son has made wonderful progress over the past 2 years due to his loving care and education at Silver Lakes. The new autism coach is also fantastic! I email her on a regular basis, she cooperates with whatever my son needs, and is always open to my suggestions and feedback. In getting to know her earlier this year, she wrote the following. I was so touched by the way that she truly believes our children are "beautiful" in their complexity, bravery, and brilliance..."I am currently the Autism Coach at Silver Lakes Elementary. I

wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my

background with children with special needs. I attended University of

Florida and then transferred to Florida State University. There,I

became interested in cognitive disabilities/ pervasive developmental

disabilities and graduated with a BA/MA in Learning Disabilities and

Emotional Handicaps. I have experience and conducted interventions

in many types of classrooms: MH cluster /EBD/ASD/SVE / and a Pre-K

w/disabilities classroom. When I came back to south Florida I worked

as a therapist at the Center for Behavior and Development, an affiliate

of the Dan Marino Center. At the center, in addition to therapy,

I subcontracted as a reading coach, a shadow, parent advocate, and

private tutor. I then began my journey as a teacher at Silver Lakes

Elementary. It was THE most amazing experience I had ever encountered

with any particular population of children. I had the honor and

privilege of working as a teacher in the autism cluster for the next 3

years. Although my true passion is early intervention with 2-3 years

olds with PDD, I have had the blessed opportunity to do what I love and

was amazingly successful with all of my little kiddos for the last 3

years. This year, even though I am out of the classroom, I am able to

reach a far larger caseload by coaching teachers, parents, and trying

to be the glue that holds the program together.

To me, Autism is so many things. It is beauty in its complexity. It

is struggles and accomplishments, perseverance and faith. Autism

is...the little miracles everyday that make the next step towards

independence possible. Autism is... believing in someone even if they

don't believe in themselves. Pushing and knowing and convincing that

your goals are possible and then finally, finally having that belief

conceived and realized by the one you've been fighting for.

Autism is communication and perception realized by only one look of

their face. However, the true victory is teaching how to morph that

look and perception into words and teaching them how to communicate

those words to others.

And from all of these victories, connections, and experiences... the

relationships formed between myself and the children grow and

strengthen with a conviction and passion that is undeniable and

indescribable with mere words. It is a bond that can only be understood

by those who share it and those whose hearts and lives encounter it

everyday. It’s in the tears of triumph, the tears of the unknown, the

tears of passion, and in the tears of love when we truly realize the

meaning of it all...The meaning that the social relationships I share

with my students and the mutual respect that we show each other, is

stronger than most relationships shared by those neuro-typicals. Why?

Because we believe in each other and trust in each other. I am as

strong as they believe I am and they are as strong as I believe they

are. I have many qualities and traits but my most significant is that I

never stop believing. No matter what.

I am blessed to have this honor and drive to share in the

responsibility of our beloved children with PDD. They teach me and

enlighten me everyday. They ground me. They've changed me and they've

taught me the importance of how to get in touch with my own abilities

to show emotion and communicate to others."To: "sList " <sList >Sent: Thu, February 25, 2010 5:36:14 PMSubject: Silver Lakes Miramar?
