Ok, I have to ask Carol, doesn't any of this go down your throat?

That's one reason why I don't use my saltwater solution, I " sniff " it up

my nose and it goes right down the back of my throat (when I finally get

the side unblocked). I can't stand choking on the saltwater.

Darcy,

The only time it went down my throat, was when my sinus' were so plugged

that the saltwater solution couldn't go up and over into my other sinus.

This was rare. One other note: I always did it a few hours before I went

to bed. When you lay down, you tend to get it going down your throat.

Also, do it well before a business meeting or anything important where you

may bend over. If you bend over right away, the saltwater solution will

drain back out, and you will be very embarrassed! I also blew my nose real

well after I did this. After years of suffering with this, I can honestly

say that this is the best thing I've come across. I often wonder if I'd

known about it before I had my 2nd sinus operation, would I have needed it?

I was really impressed with the surgeon that recommended it. After all, he

could have made quite a hefty salary by doing the operation, he chose

instead to give me another alternative.

Oooooh, this doesn't sound good for me, my sinuses are frequently

plugged because when my allergies flair, the sinus cavities swell and

everything plugs up in there. How much does one of these machines

cost? I guess I'd have to weigh the price verses " what if I don't use

it because it does the same thing as the salt water spray? " Have you

ever used the salt water spray bottles? They're like nose spray in that

you spray them up in your nose to help unplug stuff. If you have, did

they ever go down the back of your throat? I guess I'm just trying to

decide if I have a weird shaped anatomy or just unlucky in that spray

will always go back down my throat so I choke on it.

Yes, the spray goes down my throat too. All sprays do that to me. Afrin has

a spray that is supposed to go into your nose and not down your throat. I

don't know if it works though.

Yes, you can become addicted to Afrin. I usually use Ocean saline spray and

use Afrin at night so that I can try to sleep. I do not use it for more than

three days as it will cause your sinus to become use to it and it will not

help but make it all worse.

Yes, I've used the saltwater sprays, but they don't clean the sinus' like

the water pik does. If you are this swollen, then I would suggest a trip to

the Dr. to get some antibiotics. When they are that bad, I've found only

antibiotics will work. After the swelling starts to go down, then start

using the water pik. I think the water pik costs about $40.00, and the

attachment is about $15.00. I've not found the sprays to work nearly as

well as this concept.

One thing about Afrin is that you are not supposed to use if for more than

three days or so. I wasn't told that by my Dr. who told me to try it once

because my sinus' were so bad. The next thing I know, I'm using like an

addict! It worked so well in the beginning, what's wrong now?!! It seemed

to make my sinus' worse! He told me that if I use it longer than three

days, it will actually do the opposite, and make my situation worse! Like I

needed that!

One of the ladies I worked with, was like that. She swore only one

brand worked for her, and even though she knew about the rebound effect,

she still used it every day.

Unfortunately, I doubt my doctor would give me anything. Several years

ago I mentioned it, the PA thumbed my face, asked if it hurt and if I

had colored mucus coming out, and when I said " a little, no colored

mucus " , went straight on without another thought. Also, since this is

how my allergies manifest themselves, the sinuses swell, I'd have to be

on antibiotics on a daily basis. I don't know if it would work as well

me as it sounds as works for you.

I've never actually used nose sprays like Afrin, just the salt water

ones.

Do you really think Fibromyalgia has something to do with sinuses. I had my

first sinus surgery 10/99 and my sinuses are still really bad. I'm always on

anti-biotics. headaches all the time. I'm going to try this and see if it

helps. pamm
