Guest guest
I will support it and keep supporting it. I think they do a lot for the community and have raised awareness better than any organization. That salary stuff is nuts and has not been proven or substantiated. I think it is nuts to bash this organization. While I do not believe McCarthy or her "recovery" stories, I appreciate the fact that she and Jim Carey have raised awareness and that in and of itself is truly meaningful. It is more than just curing or diagnosing, it is getting folks to recognize our kids as part of their community. We need to avail ourselves of all means possible to help in every way we can. Guest guest
Good question...All those "numbers" were never commented on because there was nothing wrong with them, they're public knowledge. How come an organization that's basically lobbying for Autism can bring in $60mil and only pass on to research through grants less than half of it? Where did the rest of it go? I never heard of them doing any community outreach type of program, at least not in my area (Broward). What else do they do? Put out outrageously discriminatory ads that had to be removed from circulation?Don't get me wrong, genetic research must be done, it's how they use the money that so many families work so hard to bring to the walks that irks me...Sent from my iPhone what is it exactly the do for the community??? Guest guest
Thanks. I'm not trying to " bash " but to reveal. If my opinion that their " awareness " does more to harm than help is not valid, I'm sorry... but I'm not alone in that opinion. I think a move to get ASA to have " walks " or something similar would be an excellent way to support our needs. Thanks for sharing this excellent article. I just posted it on my Facebook page. " Autism speaks " always seemed a little too " slick " even before these excesses and lack of real attention to the cause/needs of REAL autistic people came to light. Thankfully, they are now getting the scrutiny they deserve. -- Lydia Glider-Broward County Special Needs Parents Examinerwww.examiner.com<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 WE CAN DO THIShttp://www.nopom.info<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3Hear the REAL Voices of Autism:www.iamautism.org <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 " First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.
