Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad to hear that Sophie is doing well in her helmet. Sounds like she did good her first night sleeping in it. How have the past couple of nights been? Hopefully good!!! 3.5 weeks into this and Jake is sleeping 11 hours at night again! We are so thankful. We were getting so tired. It is still hard to decide how to dress him for bed, etc....We do keep our house a little cooler and that seems to help. I'm not sure when Jake will have another scan. The orthotist said that with " older " babies he usually waits at least 2 months, often 3. I wish they would do one at every appt!!! I totally understand what you are going through! That first week was so hard for me. There were several times when my husband and I would take the helmet off and say " that's it " ...... " i don't care if his head isn't round " ! BUT, we do care and it has gotten easier! We have also come across people who frown on the helmet....they look at you like you're doing something terrible to your child! However, most people are supportive. Especially when I tell them that I want the best for my son, the helmet doesn't bother him, and that I wouldn't want a 10 year old getting picked on at school and wondering why I hadn't helped him when I could have! You are doing the right thing for your daughter! I look back at pictures of Jake and now it is so obvious that he had tort, etc.... In every photo his head was tilted to the right. We didn't really pick up on it until he was 4 months and then we did stretches and repo aggressively at home. His tort is resolved, but the damage was done to his head! I have gone through feeling guilty and then angry with our ped, etc, etc.... But I've come to the realization that there isn't anything I can do about that now and now we are doing everything that we can to help Jake! My neighbor's son just got a helmet last week-maybe it's something in the water in my neighborhood??? ha! My cousin's son had tort and plagio, but they caught it really early and he did pretty good with PT and repo......at 5 years old his head is still a little flat though and that also reassures me that I am doing the right thing. But other than that I do not know anyone else that is or has dealt with this. But it seems that many of my friends and family know of someone else who has..... Hang in there! It is going to get easier! I constantly remind myself that this is short term! Soon it will all be behind us. I'm encouraged that Jake's head will round out, but I still often worry about his little ears lining up....it's always something!
