Eastern Standard TimeSubj: [CasiClubhouse] Wakefield in Medpagetoday: comment by Ted Fogarty, MD & autis Ted Fogarty, MD - Feb 03, 2010To be fair, Dr. Offit's multimillion dollar vaccine patent should be disclosed every time he is quoted on such issues. Ethically speaking, it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black in this piece to fail including such disclosures. Every MD in this country ought to read through the Simpsonwood transcripts (the first presentation of large epidemiological data sets indicating a problem with vaccines). Also, realize that the weakest evidence in medicine is epidemiology and consider that there are some serious conflicts of interest in all of vaccine research...not just Dr. Wakefield's. It would be a real act of journalistic integrity to see MedPage do a report on the work of Gallagher and Goodman, who are defining a 3 fold risk of autism in male neonates that have been vaccinated with Hep B: ls of Epidemiology, Volume 19, Issue 9, Pages 603-680 (September 2009). Clearly the science is not done on this issue, the idea that we have studied such a heterogenous developmental derailment enough to know the epigenetics well enough exclude any relationship to vaccines is unfair.Father of Vaccine-Autism Link Said to Have Fudged DataBy Gever, Senior Editor, MedPage TodayPublished: February 11, 2009http://www.medpagetoday.com/Pediatrics/Autism/12850
