Guest guest
Our son's stims got much, much worse when we started him on cod liver oil. He had some stimming prior, but once we started him on it he would have to touch every corner of furniture; counter top; door frame etc... and if he missed a spot he would go back. He also began placing the side of his face on tables and obsessed with light switches. We immediately took him off of it and the those stims went away - thank goodness! May work for some, may not. Still worth a try. > > Below are articles on the use of cod liver oil. For those of us who have kids who look at things sideways and do a lot of hand to eye stimming, this should be tried and here are the articles citing why.... > > > > http://www.whale.to/a/megson5.html > > http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/chris/2004/01/13/cod_liver_oil_number_one_superf\ ood.htm > > > We started my son on 2 tsp daily at the age of 3 1/2. He did not begin to look at things sideways or stim visually until after 18 months or so, maybe a little earlier but it seemed to worsen over time. He would press his face up against the tv, look at everything sideways and had poor eye contact. Introducing cod liver oil was the first biomedical intervention we did. Within a month, he was sitting on the couch to watch tv, no longer looked at things sideways, stimmed on them and did not avoid eye contact. No other interventions were implemented. >
Guest guest
Actually, it was our DAN who recommended CLO initially. But Kirkman's makes one with Vitamins A and D. I've never heard of additional stimming after trying CLO. Perhaps it was the brand. Some are not thoroughly tested and may have a mercury content in them I've heard though I cannot attest to that. We have always used Nordic Naturals. Or, perhaps I wonder, if some of his Vitamin A stores were being repaired and he was seeing and exploring things with better vision? From: badillo9@... D. The suggestion is to use DHA. In a message dated 2/5/2010 9:36:29 A.M.
