Guest guest
Below you will find and invitation to a new support group that will start at CARD FAU in Boca. Shirly Shirly Gilad BCBA,RN, FNP, MS Behavioral Therapy and then some. Work: Fax: shirly@... www.shirlygilad.com Dear Parents, I am a mother of three wonderful children. Two of them are in the Autism Spectrum. They are high functioning, one is ASD and the other is PDDNOS. They also both have ADD. As you can imagine (and probably are familiar with) they deal with individual issues that range from social skills, sleeping disorders, OCD, sensory issues etc., etc., etc. J I am looking for a support group that I can meet other moms in the same boat that would like to share experiences, swap stories, network for providers, laugh, cry and most importantly feel understood. My husband is looking for the same type of support. FAU Card has graciously offered to have two support groups. One would be for women and one would be for men. My husband and I attended groups like this in Seattle and for us at least, it made a difference. Women and men act differently in front of their spouses. When you are in a group of the same gender, it’s sometimes easier to open up. With that said, let me add that FAU Card will also provide a Social Skills class for your child during the hour we are in our group. The children will be grouped by ages (7 – 11 yrs old) and (11 – 17 yrs old). All these services are free of charge. Our first meeting will tentatively be on Monday April 5th. It will be held at the FAU Boca Campus, Education Building, 4th Floor. You must pick up a (free) parking pass at the information booth located at the Main Entrance on 10th and Glades. I do need a little input from you before we begin. If you could please answer the following questions, it will help us accommodate as many of you as possible. 1. Which time is better for you? 4:30pm – 5:30pm or 6:00pm – 7:00pm 2. Would you be utilizing the Social Skills Group for your child/children? Yes or No If yes, which age group will he/she attend? 7 – 11 yrs old or 11 – 17 yrs old How many Children 1 2 3 3. The possibility of having a sibling group for children without a disability is available during our meeting time. Would you use this and for which ages? 7 – 11 yrs old or 11 – 17 yrs old 4. Who will be attending? Mom, Dad, or Both You can cut and paste the above questions and forward them to FAU CARD, kbennett@... All information that transpires during our meetings is confidential and will not be shared with others. So please join me in building a larger support group for us and our children. I look forward to meeting with all of you. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you. Fanny Hourigan fzuray@... or
