My mom taught me this one with my 2nd: sit baby up on your lap, supporting neck and back with one hand. Lean him back slightly. **Gently** jiggle baby's tummy with other hand-- you should actually be able to hear and feel the air bubble inside baby's tummy. Gently rock baby front to back while jiggling the tummy. It usually works within 5 minutes, but may take longer. This is often the only way my babies have burped without everything coming up with the air. I wish I had known about it with my first, but DH was stationed in Germany at the time...
