Guest guest
Our families just ignore us now, I'm sure the inlaws all have no idea how long I breastfed all the kids as they all live out of state and we rarely see them. We get together every other year for a week vacation so we can all see one another and next year it will fall when this baby is about 11 months old, I'm sure I'll get some comments then, or at least some looks, but heck they think we're loony anyway for having so many kids...we don't fit the 'yuppie' lifestyle of the rest of the family... Guest guest
I also don't think my MIL realizes that I'm tandem nursing lol She hasn't seen me bf Keely since last summer when I got pregnant, she probably assumes I had to stop because of the pregnancy. Oh well, I'm not going to enlighten her. Guest guest
Oh, boy, I could go *on* about my MIL in the early days of our marriage. It took quite a while for her to accept me because DH was married before to a saint and I had a kid from another marriage (that DH subsequently adopted). When our older daughter was small and I was breastfeeding, it wasn't an issue because we were never around the ILs. But, when Austin (5) was a month old or so, they came out here to visit. It was hot as you-know-what and they insisted on being schlepped around the city. Needless to say, I was already not at my best with that. When we went for lunch, no one could decide where to eat and I had a crying, hungry baby on my hands. My MIL made the comment at one point that " Breastfeeding is just not as natural as bottlefeeding. " HUH?? I ended up having to go elsewhere to feed Austin, rather than sitting at the table with everyone else. When I returned, I said that I couldn't believe that they didn't have a nursing area. MIL said, " Oh, I don't want to hear about it. " Thank heavens when she was out for a visit when was a month old, she didn't make a single peep. She even walked into the living room 3x while I was nursing (discreetly, of course) and talked to me for a few moments. I don't know what changed, but I'm glad it did! > When my twins were three weeks old my MIL told me that my milk wan't rich > enough becuase the girls weren't sleeping through the night yet. Guest guest
They've all seen me do it when the babies were small, it's next summer I wonder about, not that I care what they think about it anyway. With our own cabin and a bunkhouse, a lodge and folding chairs I can move down by the river I'm sure I'll be able to nurse in private if I need to. It will mostly depend on the baby, if s/he is too distracted by others being around or not. Guest guest
I guess I am lucky, both my MIL's and mom(I have 2 MIL's becasue my dh has a stepmom also) they all excepted me breastfeeding, my dh;s mom nursed him for 4 months. I was still nursing Dylan util 16 months and noone ever questioned me. I think they asked out of curiosity how long I was gonna nurse for, and I said I did not know, but they never said anything about it. They all knew the benefits of breastfeeding, my FIL brought me articles he found on the benefits of breastfeeding(like I did nto already now waht they said) they all swear that Dylan is so smart becasue he was breastfed. I was joking around with my dh once in front of his parents, I told him I was not gonna nurse Mikayla, they all said WHAT?? they all wanted me to nurse her, of course I was joking to see what they all said. My mil caught a glimpse and was shocked that we were still nursing. She thought that at 7 months, you were supposed to switch to follow-up formula and solids! My youngest is 2.5 now and still nursing, but we live in another country (they're in TX and we're in Portugal) so I'm positive she has no clue. My own mom was here last summer and also caught off guard that my then 18 month old was still nursing. She asked me not long ago about when I weaned him, and I told her we were still weaning. Sudden silence...
