Guest guest
Kathy - Of course, we all wish you good luck on your scan, but I have a few questions. Chest x-ray?? I don't remember anyone saying they had a chest x-ray done when they went for a scan. Are you sure about this schedule? It's pretty unusual to have 24 hour and 96 hour scans after a low dose. In any case, I hope you're not planning on driving yourself? As you surely know, hypo driving is definitely not recommended (see archive letters on the subject .... 7654 ..... cautionary letters about driving while hypo from Dr. Ain 4621 ..... Guest guest
Hi , thanks for responding. Yes today I had to have a chest x-ray done....??? I thought maybe it was standard procedure or something. I swallowed my capsule....the one that he says has no side effects but he held out to me while it was inside a test tube that was being held within a metal container!!!!! My husband and I really joked and laughed about that!! Here keep this away from me but you swallow it, it won't hurt you!!! Just playing. They said I am to return tomorrow to have measurements taken for remnant & to receive another dose according to what they find & come home for week-end. Then Monday is whole body scan. Depending on those results, possible treatment with possible admission Tuesday-Thursday. Do they ever not have to treat? This part makes me a little nervous. I just want them to be complete. Oh, and update on my return to work ordeal....received my " official " letter from our corporate office that if I can't return to work on 9/17/02, I am terminated. This is something else, but right now I'm concentrating on myself and getting better that I am not letting that deter my focus. Life has too much else in it for me and all of us. Thanks, Kathy Re: onset of RAI.... Kathy - Of course, we all wish you good luck on your scan, but I have a few questions. Chest x-ray?? I had CXR done once per year for 4 years. I had lung metastases at the time of diagnosis and it took me 5 years to get rid of them. My CXRs were always normal....nothing ever showed up on them which is typical for people with lung metastases as they are usually diffuse mets. Your Dr. probably figured as long as he had you in for other work, might as well order a routine CXR. Marilyn

Guest guest
Marilyn already answered the x-ray question; I agree it's certainly not a bad thing, it's just unusual. I'm still puzzled about your schedule, though. It sounds like you'll possibly be getting 3 RAI doses. What am I missing ... ? You received a low scan dose today (probably 2-5 milliCuries); you will scan tomorrow, and also receive a higher, another RAI dose (presumably your ablative dose). Monday will be a whole body scan utilizing the higher amount of RAI in your system. If you're getting a second RAI dose tomorrow, there's no reason to have another one on Tuesday. If you're told that you may be hospitalized Tuesday - Thursday, then I agree that dose will be your ablative dose. I think perhaps you misunderstood about tomorrow's scan; I can't imagine that it will be followed by another RAI dose. I'm sorry your corporate office is still being so obstinate, but you are wise to put it to the back of your head while you focus on your treatment. - mccartney@... wrote: > Hi , thanks for responding. Guest guest
Thanks , Yes, my endo (I love this doc) and my nuclear med doc (that my endo referred me to) both mentioned LID to me. Actually my nuc. doc sent me LID info & recipes (Hershey Medical Center in central PA) this was helpful. I had TT on June 17.2002 & I did have to keep on the med center to get on the ball scheduling my RAI. The work thing is a mess....I may check into further after this RAI is behind me, I'm focusing on this now - I have to . Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I am also going to be go going through the same thing you are except my endo already did my chest x-ray. I am on the LID right now for another week. Go in on Tue 17th and get the " small dose " and have some sort of scan that day, come back on Thur. 18th to get a full body scan then meet with my endo to decide on the what " large dose " to give me. They haven't even mentioned a follow up scan yet. There always is one isn't there?? I am so sorry to hear about your problems at work. I would be tempted to go in and radiate all of them...but then I have a mean streak in me. And that probably wouldn't be nice to do. I was under the assumption that they have to give you medical leave w/out pay and to hold your position. I'm wishing you the best of luck with this!! Good luck with your scan...I will be waiting to hear all about it since I will be going through it soon myself!! you will be in my prayers, ===== Keri :-) 29 in Seattle 5/02 ultrasound 7/1/02 FNA-Pap Carcinoma 7/9/02 TT 9/1/02 going off meds and onto LID RAI scheduled for 9/19/02 __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi Keri & everyone! Thanks for your thoughts. Thursday was my first day RAI, took my capsule (6.95 microcuries) & came home. Returned Friday when they scanned my neck for thyroid remnant - they said they like to see 1-3%, I had 3.8% so my course of treatment took a curve. They then injected 10 millicuries into my arm, waited and took pictures in my neck area to see where all the tissue was exactly. There were a few spots and a significant area that my nuclear doc said was on my thyroid duct. He said that " this has to go " ...I was afraid he was saying more surgery, but he didn't. They made " my nuclear cocktail " (they all said it was tasteless & I asked just how many of them have actually tasted it!!!! I got them there) this was 70 millicuries and sent me home with home precautions. I return in 2 weeks (9/20/02) for whole body scan. Somehow this seems backwards to me...I guess I'm just more confused than ever, but I'm on my way.....I asked them if we were not doing wbs till 2 weeks will I need another dose they say no that this will still be there working. What if the wbs show something? They say that if it does the RAI is there working. It just seems that if I'd have had less remnant, they would have treated anything showing on wbs with larger dose. But with larger remnant, the smaller dose will hold in there and work without needing the larger dose...I'm soooo confused. Also yesterday once home I slept all day, got up for only couple hours last eve, so nauseated - it was awful. Thankfully I was able to sleep thru night. Today is a little better, still so weak. They also said I can go off LID Monday!! and start my thyroid meds Sunday (levoxil qd, cytomel 2x day for 2 days & 1x day for 3 days, then levoxil only). They also mentioned repeat of body scan but to be honest right now I can't remember the time (6 - 9 mos maybe???) Hi Kathy, I am also going to be go going through the same thing you are except my endo already did my chest x-ray.
