Guest guest
Hi, Kathy - Glad it's over!! Your dosage and scan schedule does seem different than most people's. You got quite a combo of capsule, injection, and drink - wow! Yes, the WBS will show where the RAI has gone. There are some areas that will light up that they EXPECT to light up. Here's Dr explaining what those areas are: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/4560 What you want is for ONLY those areas to light up. That's why you want an experienced nuclear med doctor to read your scans. Yes - follow up scans usually are in about 6-12 months. Mine's at 6 months, then another a year after that one. Of COURSE you're exhausted, you poor thing! Hypo is really worse after the RAI. And it sounds like you had a rough time, with nausea. Be good to yourself, and get a lot of rest. Cheers, Alisa Cheers, Alisa 2/15/2002: Nodule found during bad sore throat 2/27/2002: FNA - suspicious for pap 3/4/2002: Hysterectomy/oopherectomy-possible ovarian cancer - BENIGN!! 4/9/2002: TT - Stage 2 pap encapsulated in 2.5 x 2 x 1.6 cm nodule, Hashimotos discovered 5/28/2002: TBS (2 mCi dose on 5/24) and 100 mCi RAI 6/6/2002: TBS - No sign of mets Currently - 140mcg Levoxyl Age: 48 Location: near Seattle WA Please feel free to email me privately anytime Check out my posts: Radioactive Girl - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/19472 My LID - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/15872 My RAI - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/15873 > Hi Keri & everyone! > > Thanks for your thoughts. Thursday was my first day RAI, took my capsule (6.95 microcuries) & came home. Returned Friday when they scanned my neck for thyroid remnant - they said they like to see 1-3%, I had 3.8% so my course of treatment took a curve. They then injected 10 millicuries into my arm, waited and took pictures in my neck area to see where all the tissue was exactly. There were a few spots and a significant area that my nuclear doc said was on my thyroid duct. He said that " this has to go " ...I was afraid he was saying more surgery, but he didn't. They made " my nuclear cocktail " (they all said it was tasteless & I asked just how many of them have actually tasted it!!!! I got them there) this was 70 millicuries and sent me home with home precautions. I return in 2 weeks (9/20/02) for whole body scan. Somehow this seems backwards to me...I guess I'm just more confused than ever, but I'm on my way.....I asked them if we were not doing wbs till 2 weeks will I need another dose they say no that this will still be there working. What if the wbs show something? They say that if it does the RAI is there working. It just seems that if I'd have had less remnant, they would have treated anything showing on wbs with larger dose. But with larger remnant, the smaller dose will hold in there and work without needing the larger dose...I'm soooo confused. Also yesterday once home I slept all day, got up for only couple hours last eve, so nauseated - it was awful. Thankfully I was able to sleep thru night. Today is a little better, still so weak. They also said I can go off LID Monday!! and start my thyroid meds Sunday (levoxil qd, cytomel 2x day for 2 days & 1x day for 3 days, then levoxil only). They also mentioned repeat of body scan but to be honest right now I can't remember the time (6 - 9 mos maybe???) Thanks, Kathy (PA) > From: Keri > To: Thyca@y... > Sent: Friday, September 06, 2002 1:17 AM > Subject: Re: onset of RAI.... > > > Hi Kathy, > I am also going to be go going through the same thing you are except my > endo already did my chest x-ray.
