I asked for a raise

Sorry guys, I'm prolific today. I wonder why I have so much to say.

So my T and I have been working on what she calls " finding my voice. " My job

is to learn to speak up for myself. She thinks when I do learn to do that, i

won't have as many physical health problems. She says that chronic pain is

often due to never saying what you think and stuffing or swallowing your

words and opinions.

So, the main place where I need to do this is at work. I've worked in the

same job for 4 years. I have become extremely comfortable with my

responsabilities, even bored. To tell you the truth, I'm always aout 3 steps

ahead of my boss, I can out do and out work her without even trying. My job

has become easy for me. I've been ready for a promotion and more

responsability for a long time.

However, the economic downturn has hit our industry very very hard. I've

done the work of 2 or 3 people for 3 month long stretches over the last 3

years. Things are looking up. the company has signed new clients. I've

brought a lot of them in myself.

So someone in my department is transferring to another department. They are

looking to replace him. I don't really care, but my boss isn't great at

choosing employees if you want to know the truth. So I fully expect her to

hire someone who is lazy or feels entitled. I am a little bugged that they

are hiring without taking care of me at all. I work damn hard. No raise in 3

years. I asked for one 2 years ago and it turned into a huge drama with

everyone upset because they said I did it wrong. i decided that I would

rather find a new job than go through that drama again. I applied to 3 PhD

programs and I'm fully invested in finding not just a new job, but a new

field.

So yesterday, our office manager said " we posted the job, do you know

anyone? " I said (I'd been rehersing this in my head for about 3 weeks), " Are

you really going to hire someone when I haven't had a raise in 3 years? "

ha ha she was a little surprised. I then told her I'd like an upgrade in

title. She of course said no that this was a replacement job not an upgrade

(whatever, people are getting promoted right and left at that company). She

said she herself hasn't had a raise in 5 years. I said, you should give

yourself a raise. then we started giggling (we are good friends) about

people who behave badly whose money we could hijack to give her a raise.

She said that my direct boss needs to ask for a raise for me. I said that

will never happen (she has jealousy and competition issues). So the office

manager said she will bring it up.

So funny - I don't look at it like its life and death. or like their

opinions of me matter to the utmost anymore. I look at it like a game.

People who play the game better get raises. I don't really care because I've

already moved most of my eggs to another basket. I have applied for 4 other

opportunities that would begin in September. If any of them come through I

will leave and not look back.

So color me proud of myself! That was damn hard for me to do!

Yeah, pretty sick of the same crap with the competitiveness etc. My aim is

to become a therapist, establish my own practice and have a LOT more

autonomy. . .

Blah people are so dumb and driven by pack order and not much else.
