Guest guest
Sandy, Did she hit a growth spurt? Are there any red spots? Does she get upset the whole time she's wearing it or just when you put it on? All three of my kids did some head shaking at about 5 months. Guest guest
Sandy, Dominick did that when he had his band at first. It scared me, but then we realized he had figured out that he now had a round head to move on and shortly after this he finally started rolling over( he was delayed in this). Hopefully that is what is going on with Sydney. CAROLG > > So it seems like Sydney is now aware of her band! Guest guest
My son does this all of the time. I just thought he did it because it felt good to have the band off and he was just itching. He also loves to have his head rubbed when it is off too. I thought it was normal (mom of DOC band 1/05/06) > > > Sandy, > Did she hit a growth spurt? Guest guest
Hopefully, that's what's going on. She shook her head a lot last night when I took her band off. I'm hoping it's because she's just feeling the sensation of the back of her head. Then when I put it back on and put her down for the night, she kept doing it before she fell asleep. I thought her head was itching or something was bothering her. She has red marks right above the band. I haven't seen if they go away within an hour. Our orthotist (from CT) said after the initial 48 hours, don't be concerned about red marks, only be concerned if there are skin texture changes. Have there been any studies on negative effects fo the band? Any sensory deprivation? I'm concerned about any possible future effects since bands haven't been around all that long... > > Sandy, > Dominick did that when he had his band at first. He woke up about 4:30, shook his head right and left a couple of times and then went to sleep. He didn't have any red marks but his eczema flared a little bit. Guest guest
Technically bands/helmets have been around since the 70s. The DOC band has been around since the late 80s/early 90s I think. It was FDA approved in 98. na used to shake her head and scratch it I compared it to when you take off a winter hat - your head itches and your hair is all goofy feeling - sticky up etc. Are you sure the ortho said not to worry about red marks after the first 48 hours?? If she has a growth spurt the red marks can pop back up again indicating an adjustment is needed. However, the initial red marks are usually resolved in the first 48 hours. It seemed to be like clock work with Kiersten. Guest guest
Sandy,The bands are safe, they do not restrict cranial growth or interfere in developement in any way. Here is a study that might help you.Band Study I still want you to watch the red spots and be sure they fade in the proper time, but you don't have to be quite as obsessive as the first week. Guest guest
Carol My son received the DOC band 12/7/05 and before he had it on he was 6 months old and rolling and getting very strong, putting his legs under his belly, lifting up on his forarms... Since the helmet has been on NOTHING!! He is finally starting to roll back to belly again but will not roll belly to back and will not (can not??) lift his head up during tummy time for more than a few seconds. He is not sitting infact he wiggles back down to be on his back. he is going to be evaluated next week by a PT. this has stressed me out way more than the helmet ever did. his head is rounding out beautifully!!! I just see a 4-6 week regression in his gross motor skills... any thoughts? Lynn 7 months DOC band 12/7/05 Plagiocephaly and Tort -- - In Plagiocephaly , " Carol G. Guest guest
Lynn, That is scary. I have not heard of the band doing this to any child. I've ehard about them actually rolling afterwards. na rolled shortyle after getting hers. Kiersten is thinking about it - LOL - that's her personality. I'm glad you're getting it evaluated because it makes no sense. na, 2 1/2 yrs, DOC Grad Feb 04, Tort Resolved Kiersten, 7 1/2 months, DOC 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com > > > > > > > > > > So it seems like Sydney is now aware of her band!
Guest guest
Lynn, If anything the bands tend to help them move easier, but there are certain things that can cause them to loose some of their gross motor skills such as hypotonia etc... so it is a good thing that he will be evaluated. Don't get too worried just yet, sometimes they just want to scare us,lol. Please let me know what happens at the evaluation. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I agree w/. I don't think the band has anything to do w/this. How is his tort coming along? Is he receiving PT for the tort? Let us know how your eval goes. > > > > > > > > > > So it seems like Sydney is now aware of her band!
