Guest guest
Great news Amy! You are one of our amazing success stories with Prednisone. Your protein is sure good now. I am very happy you are able to taper down even more.
Guest guest
Way to go Amy! You must be feeling awesome. Cy actually I feel great about the lower dose and my labs...though today my body is screaming at me. I was shaking so bad at lunch I dropped my bowl trying to get it from the microwave to the counter. My hubby just said " I'll get that, you worry about getting some food into your system. " What a guy...he cleans up after me. LOL! The headache and exhaustion are starting to set in now. He just called from work to tell the kids goodnight and to check in on me and said " Don't do anything, just lay around on the couch and if you are asleep when I get home I'll make sure you wake up to take your meds. " No he isn't for sale ladies....though I might rent him out if the price is right. I've actually noticed that my face is slowly returning to normal. Just two months ago my neck/chin was so swollen from the pred I couldn't tuck a pillow under it to slip on the case, the other night I was changing our sheets and realized I could hold the pillow under my chin again. I can't tell you how good that made me feel. ) My hubby thought I was nuts when I called him into the room to show him that I could hold the pillow under my chin again. I hope that I have more of my regular looks back by my sister in laws wedding in July...it would be nice to look like " me " for pictures. a very shaky Amy

Guest guest
True confession time.... had the face too. However, very literally, I didn't see it. I do remember taking photos of him at the horse show, being horrified with how they came out and telling him not to worry, he didn't look that way at all -- and for that moment in time, I'm sure what I said was absolutely true. However, when we recently compared his new YMCA card (taken at 10 mg dose) with his student ID card (taken at 60 mg), the difference was night and day. I guess the face disappeared somewhere between 10 and 20 mg. 's also had this bloody, pus filled, gross and disgusting foot injury all year long (don't get me going about arguments with the school! Fortunately, his gym teacher is very sympathetic) -- which FINALLY is beginning to heal now that we're down to 5 mg. All that being said, we'd take doubles on the pred experience. This was a wonderful, wonderful thing. Cy Re: Down to 10mg! Yea!! > > Way to go Amy! You must be feeling awesome. Guest guest
Hi Cy, That must have been very frustrating to have with a foot infection for that long. It is scary to have him on drugs that suppress his immune system so much, even when you know they are working. I am glad his foot is finally healing Cy. You have been through so much with your husband, and your father. You are an inspiration to all of us Cy!

Guest guest
Amy, I have 2 months worth of posts to catch up on. And caught the last 2 days worth, are you taking prednisone as a follow up from transplant or for some other ailment. I havent caught al lthe details yet. 10 mg isnt bad. I was reduced to 10 mg on momday as part of my post transplant cocktail. Thankfully I avoided most of the adverse effects of the drug, Bloaty head, mood swings, hot flashes, weight gain. I did get some acne though, on my back and shoulders. Its like being a teenager again. If my voice stars changing again I'm sunk Looking forward to reply and recovery. Some meds are nasty - hopefully yo'll get through them and be back to normal in no time. Sounds like your husband is a great guy. You should heed his advise. Guest guest
Hi Tony, I'm on the prednisone for heavy proteinuria. I was dx with IgAN in Sept '03 and my biopsy showed heavy scaring and lots of crescents. Since the labs I had done for my yearly checkup in Nov '02 were all normal they determined mine was an aggressive form of IgAN. With my b/p running high, nasty biopsy report and a +3 on the protein my neph went aggressive in the tx plan. I did 3-1000 mg IV's then went on 80mg daily of the pred....I've been slowly tapered to my current point and so far have tolerated it well. (more annoying side effects than major ones so far) My protein spill is way down and my serum creatinine has held steady so it looks like things are going well to this point. I'm just hoping that once off the prednisone my numbers stay stable. Another few days of shaking from the taper and I should be feeling back to normal...unless my b/p goes to low and I have to adjust my b/p meds that is. **if it ain't one thing it's another** Learning to go with the flow and still shaky.... Guest guest
I agree with , and that's gotta be so hard on him with a year- long foot infection like that. I'm glad that it's finally healing. Kinda freaks me out though, since it looks like I'll be on the 20 mg pred for a bit of time.... One frustrating thing for me was that I just noticed I've started getting humongous bruises for almost no reason (or maybe just a *slight* bump). I wish I'd had pictures to show you, they are totally gross! It's like someone took dark purple paint and used a huge mop and stuck it on me! The worst thing about this is that it's looking like it will take at least two weeks to heal - for someone who rarely gets a bruise, never mind one so colourful for so long - it's tough. And I haven't got the moon face quite yet...but I fear it's creeping up on me. If I've been on it six weeks already, will I still grow into a moon face? Guest guest
Sophia if you haven't gotten the moon face yet you may be one of the lucky ones who gets by without it! Or you may not get very puffy at all. Mine puffed up very quickly, like within 2 weeks, but I was also on a very high dose right from the start (80mg). I go thru periods where I bruise very easily too since on the pred (normally right at the beginning of my menstrual cycle). I've noticed that eating foods high in iron (like Malt O Meal..1 serving is 60% of your iron for the day) help clear the bruises up faster and keep them from happening as often. Amy Re: Down to 10mg!
