Guest guest
I am glad to see that Irv is doing very well with his new toy. I had my implant surgery on October 28th, last year.My surgeon Dr. Di Tirro and audiologist Tanner of Kaiser here in Hollywood, California both did an outstanding job. I was fitted with Nucleus 24 BWP and G3 processor, which I use 100% of the time. The Bwp is stored away. I am wondering, whether its worth while for me to swap my Bwp for a new Freedom processor, and how expensive to make the change. Guest guest
I can tell you that the battery compartment for the freedom whether it be a BWP or a BTE will cost you about $3000.00. I got activated early in Sept and the BWP for the Freedom is not out yet, so I got stuck with 2 BTE. The BWP for the freedom won't be out until sometime in Dec. I asked my audiologist to call Cochlear and find out the prices for the BWP b/c I thought maybe I could just purchase one. When I found out the price my jaw dropped and I then asked her to find out if I could trade one of my BTE in for a BWP ONCE they do come out in DEC. They said I could do that ONLY if I did not use the other BTE battery compartment. So I put one of them up and am patiently waiting for the BWP to come out. I am not sure how much the processor cost though. I just know how much the battery compartment for the freedom and the BWP for the freedom will cost. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of chinamoses@... Guest guest
, $3grand for the battery holder seems a bit steep. The usual price for the other BTE's, the Esprit and 3G, is $6,000. Guest guest
Well if you stop and think about it for a min it kind of makes sense. If its 6 grand for the whole BTE including the processor and battery holder then what they are doing is dividing that price in half since it takes BOTH the processor AND the battery pack for the BTE to work. Yes I think its way to much to ask for a battery compartment but that's what they are asking. I really hope they go down on the price. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Saturday, October 08, 2005 1:53 PM Subject: Re: FREEDOM , $3grand for the battery holder seems a bit steep. Guest guest
, I don't have the New Freedom but I do have the 3G and that is the price of it or was. While the price sounds outrageous you have to remember that we are paying for all of the technology that goes into making the CI. there is more to the battery than just contacts. There is more to the little computer that sits on your head than just a little piece of plastic. When you stop and think about all of the technology that has gone into making the New Freedom with 4 maps to programs that little computer chip is worth every penny. I admit I didn't have to pay out of pocket for mine but if I had had the money I would have shelled it out in a hurry to be able to hear again. How much is your hearing worth? Mine is worth every penny. Re: FREEDOM , $3grand for the battery holder seems a bit steep. The usual price for the other BTE's, the Esprit and 3G, is $6,000. Guest guest
Moses, you probably haven't heard from anyone yet because we are all still waiting to " hear " from Cochlear about what those of us with N24C and earlier processors will have to do in order to upgrade to the Freedom Processor. I've been patienly waiting to see what the deal is too. Sadly, I don't have an unopened processor to turn in; but I'm still kind of hoping that my BWP can be turned in for at least part of the cost of the upgrade. Hang in there, I'm sure when Cochlear announces their plans, it will be all over the forums. Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Hi Moses! No thanks needed. I only shared what little info I knew and that was nothing. Since I have the 3G and the Sprint BWP as a back up, I can't tell you if the Freedom will be a big improvement over the 3G. But, I am very excited by the posts of those being hooked up with the Freedom. When they come out for us N24's perhaps our audies will have a spare for us to try out before we go with any deal Cochlear offers. I don't have an unopened processor to trade in so I am very interested in finding out what the cost will be in order to upgrade. I would love to say no matter the cost it would be worth it; but my wallet says otherwise right now. If not right away when the upgrade becomes available then someday in the future. In any case, I'm very happy with what my 3G gives me now. So if I have to save and wait a few then that's the way it is. Patience. Have a good week! Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Alice, To go from what I heard in 2002 to what I hear now, I have to agree with you 100%. Hearing is priceless. Being able to hear not only affects us but those around us. I gladly paid the extra money my insurance didn't cover to be able to live the way I am living now and not just exsist from day to day the way I was doing. I was barely holding a job, never volunteering for extra work because it was too stressful. By the end of 8 hours I felt like I'd work twice that long. After work I would go home and stay in my " cave " until it was time to go to work again. Not much of a life, huh? Well....you should see me now!!!!!!! YES...hearing is priceless. If it stays anchored to the hips, then maybe he is staying straighter!!! : ) Let's hope! If you went with RED again, Darrell did think that they were stronger casts. Bill said that is what we are doing next! lol! I guess I have to teach Eli how to say RED. ha!! I'm willing to do a red cast! Go Cards!! Eli is doing great in his second cast!
