Guest guest
Are you eating anything different in the last week or so. I went through that with my little guy and apparently something I ate didn't taste right to him via the milk. I ended up pumping extra out and pouring down the drain and going back to my standard diet that he was ok with Mine was very minor change - I think I was eating bananas and once I stopped things were fine again... ....just a possiblity... Guest guest
Amy W., How many times a day would you estimate that Ryker nurses right now (including the really quick hits)? 6 feedings a day is enough. Waking him at night (though it may be hard on your schedule) is a good way to get an extra feeding session into him. Is Ryker learning to sit up or crawl or anything like that right now? Sometimes while babies are busy with a developmental increment it is hard for them to take time to eat. If you are feeling that your supply might go down, try to pump some after each feeding. You can either store it or feed it in a cup during the day. If you aren't getting anything out of his nose, don't worry him further with the saline and suction, maybe just do it once a day, and after a good feeding (but with a little space so he can't associate it with nursing.) Okay, if he's teething this can make nursing uncomfortable for him. Does he have swollen gums? Try one of the teething gels on his gums, a dose of Tylenol or Hylands teething tablets to ease the condition if he's uncomfortable having you touch his gums. You and Ryker are both more efficient about nursing than you used to be, so it is possible that he gets enough with really quick feedings. Do you have a l/c or LLL that you can contact for a more personal approach to solving this? I would encourage you to do that if it's available. Hope this helps. Amy Lynn M. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I don't have any advice , but Sam does some of those same things. In addition to the rubbing/snorting, and delayed latching (which he will eventuallly do after a min. or 2 of initial fussing), he also gets the " cricket feet " going, where he rubs his heels together, then pulls off, arches his back, lets out a cry or two, then latches back on. This will happen 2 or 3 x's before he'll settle. I thought maybe teething too. Joan

Guest guest
Joan, Great description of the feet thing! It sounds just like Ryker! Man, I hope this passes soon because I want my cuddly nursling back! Then again, I am not quite sure I am ready for more teeth. Amy

Guest guest
Amy Lynn, Ryker just learned to sit up. I would say he is probably nursing at least six times. I am just used to him being on a schedule where he will eat when I wake him up, then again at 8:30, 10:30, noon and 3:30 while I am at work. Guess I need to revise that schedule now that he seems to be getting older and not wanting to nurse as frequently. Thanks for your help! Amy W. Guest guest
Amy W., With DS who would nurse for any minor boo-boo plus meals, snacks, etc. (well, a bit of an exaggeration), we found that every time he went through a developmental milestone or got shots at the Dr.'s (which usually coincided) there would be a schedule change--either in sleeping patterns or nursing ones. Give Ryker a few more days to pattern himself, while keeping a time chart, so you can learn about his new needs in a more tangible form. Sitting up is a big milestone in a little guy's life. Congrats--LOL, Amy Lynn
