Questions on Hypo Edema

Well, searching the net has not been too helpful to me so I thought i

would turn to my trusty group of answer providers - thanks in advance

to all who respond.

I think I may have Hypo edema. It has been 2.5 hrs since I woke up

and I still have slight creases (no longer the welts which lasted 2

hrs) from sleep wrinkles! Also - my eyes feel very funny and my

urine output in the morning is now less then it uss is (gets better

as the day wears on).

Can someone tell me what to expect with this? Also - if it is

causing my weight gain is it easier weight to lose then fat weight

gain?

Background info that may help you answer my questions:

>>I have been drinking tons of water as I am VERY thirsty

>>Have been on LID about 12 days now

>>I have been craving salt so I added quite a bit to my food

yesterday. My #1 Non-LID craving is for potato chips - because I

want that salt!

>>I have also gained weight (about 4 lbs)

>> the only exercise I find I am capable of is a slow walk but I am

walking, walking, walking as it tends to help me fight the fatigue.

>>This is day 15 off cytomel

>> my diet is a lot of fruit (watermelon, peaches, grapes, bananas);

asparagus, zucchini, cauliflower, date nut bread (1 slice in

morning); either grilled chicken breast/steak/pork tenderloin - no

more then 4-5 oz a day - spread out over lunch/dinner; tomatoes;

cucumber, red pepper, lettuce; 1 tsp LID chocolate sauce a day,

couple of dried apricots (not every day); a few nuts; 1 cup of coffee

with 1.5 sugars and almond nut milk; the odd handful of plain pasta

elbows (not every day); popcorn - fresh popped - a small bowl every

other night; two small pieces of biscotti;

Any advice/comments/stories re my symptoms and what I can expect

would be appreciated.

Thanks

Joan

Hi Joan,

I am right there with you - off cytomel since 9/9, on LID since

Monday of this past week. I am scheduled for tracer on 10/7; body

scan on 10/9, RAI on 10/15/02 - this is my 1 and a half year scan,

cervical mets appear to be present. I had a colon resection in April

of this year - in hospital stays a week each in Jan and Feb, so I

missed my one year scan.

I had a TT on 1/28/01 (Pap Ca, both lobes), clean body scan with no

RAI 6/2001; raised nodes and elevated TG found on annual with endo.

All that being said: I am starting to be unable to read as the fluid

buildup in my eyes is changing my sight. I, too, have edema - and I

am trying to watch the (non-iodized) salt. I am craving salt too. I

could sleep all day right about now, but I try to get up and move

around (I also have fibromyalgia). My urine output is less as well -

I drink all the water I can get in me. When this is all over, I can

tell you - as I went through it last year - you will lose the water

weight. Real weight gain is just like any other weight gain. You

would think on the very healthy (not balanced but healthy enough) LID

with the small portions we shouldnot gain too much actual weight. And

last year I think I remember (hypo memory) that when the water weight

left I had actually lost a few pounds. My prayer lately is: God, if

you can't make me thin, make all my friends fat! :):)

The bottom line is to get all the water into you that you can, and

watch the salt intake. There is a time coming when it will turn

around. This is just what they call hypo hell. I am there with you. :)

take care of your self - stay in touch...this is a great place for

answers, and for support.
