Guest guest
Just thought I would update my pumping problems after getting such great advice last week. Thanks again Jenn, Amy Lynn and Alana. I took Friday off work and Gwyneth nursed non-stop like a champ. Sat and Sun my sister and her kids were visiting and Gwyneth was a bit distracted. I had to go upstairs to a quiet room to get her to nurse well. My pumpings on Monday at work were better but not great. I got a total of 8 oz in 2 pumpings (last week I was getting about 6 oz in 2 pumpings). So far today I already got 6 oz in the first pumping so I seem to be doing better. However, Gwyneth has a cold now and was very cranky and did not nurse very well this morning so I'm worried it won't last. So far the main thing for getting things going better has been increased nursing. I'm also pumping a little later in the day and have changed when I pump at home. I've also tried some of the massaging techniques suggsted by Jenn, which seem to give me a little bit more. I plan to take one day a week off work to have more nursing time. I tried drinking a little wine two nights to relax me more, but both nights Gwyneth was very agitated all night. I have read that alcohol can act as a stimulant on an infants nervous system so am afraid to try it agian. Anybody else ever experience this? I am having trouble with getting her to nurse on my left side. The letdown is very slow on this side and the flow is much slower. When I pump, I get about half as much from this side. Unless she is very sleepy, she is too impatient to eat from this side and fusses and refuses it. I think I am developing a plugged duct as a result. I have a hard soarish lump there. I really have got to get her to accept it or I am heading for more trouble. Thanks again for all the advice. Suzanne Gwyneth 1/22/
Guest guest
Thanks for the update. I had been wondering how things were going. Have you looked into any of the pumping moms websites or listeservs? The one I was on was a lifesaver because I could talk to other moms who could relate. Each baby will have a different reaction to alcohol so if you think that there was a correlation, it certainly won't *hurt* to cut it out. Try to massage directly over the lump if you think it is a plugged duct. Position Gwyneth so that her chin is at the point where the plug is and then she might be more effective at working it through. This may require some maneuvering. I have nursed up and hands and knees to take advantage of gravity! Also lecithin capsules might help clear the lump. I can look for dosage info if no one else knows it offhand.
