Guest guest
Can you go through the back door and find an ABA therapist who is an LCSW or LMHC (Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Mental Health Counselor) and get coverage for mental health benefits. Insurance will usually pay for these services if they are provided by someone licensed in those areas. That is what I did when my daughter was diagnosed. It is also what I am trying to move towards professionally – just not there yet. I know Aeleen Tortorici is an LMHC and although she is not straight ABA, she uses ABA concepts including discrete trails. Her approach is eclectic. Might be worth giving her a shot. She is who we used when we lived there. If not, just call those places that offer it and see I they have one on staff. Also Lina Moyano is an LCSW who is familiar with ABA although she focuses more in Floortime. Good luck! Can anyone recommend an insurance company that is sympathetic to families with children with developmental disorders? I may be being naïve to use the term sympathetic, but I am hoping to find a company that has a better understanding of developmental disorders. My husband has a small law firm and his " group " insurance plan just raised its rates over $1,000.00 a month to over $2,600.00 a month in total. The plan we are on now does not cover any of our son's ABA therapy, so it is irrelevant to us whether the plan will cover his pre-existing disorder since none of that is covered anyway. We have been investigating " individual " insurance plans, but have been consistently told they will cover mom, dad, and younger son (no developmental delay/disorder), but not our older son who has an undiagnosed developmental disorder (Yes, we've sought a diagnosis innumerable times, but as yet he has not been " diagnosed. " ) Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
