Guest guest
FSU in Tallahassee? Subject: Pines CharterTo: sList Date: Wednesday, May 12, 2010, 2:02 PM Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences, good or bad, that they'd like to share about the Autism program at Pines Charter's FSU campus? I've heard so very little about it, would love to hear any feedback you might have! Thanks!
Guest guest
Hi, my daughter is in 3rd grade (not autistic) in that school and she is assigned two hours a day to be with one autistic child when they bring them to their classroom. She loves to be with autistic kids, not only because of her great personality but also because her brother (my 3 1/2 old son) is mild autistic (PDD). That is a great school all together and I know they have a great program for autistic children. I also have talked to other moms that have autistic kids in that school and they only say good things about it. During recess, they also bring the autistic kids to play with the others. I also know it's a very small ratio and it's the only Pines charter school that offers a program for autistic children. I don't have any more detailed information because I'm kind of new in the autism world and my son will start kindergarten in 2012. I hope this information helps. Guest guest
Oh, thanks for posting this! I've been meaning to, ever since the meeting we had there last week? I suppose you were there?I like the idea that they follow Sunshine S. Standards and that only and that they are big on academics, but I wonder how they are with inclusion? If they only "accept" higher functioning kids, what would it take for a kid to be moved onto a gen ed class? The fact that they do some of the specials in other classes from the autism program somehow doesn't sit right with me...shouldn't the kids be going to gen ed classes for specials? They don't call it a cluster, but what else is it?I do like that they have K and 1st grade together, though...that could be a good push for kids going into K, to have kids in the class who have been there for a while...Anyway, I'm also looking for feedback!Subject: Pines CharterTo: sList Date: Wednesday, May 12, 2010, 2:02 PM Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences, good or bad, that they'd like to share about the Autism program at Pines Charter's FSU campus?
