Guest guest
Wow... they actually prohibit what goes on daily - quite interesting. The cyber bullying is even more interesting as one can always choose the delete option, block option, and even the little X up in the corner to end all of that..but I do understand what they are saying. Bullying practices in general cause much more then many think especially those that are employees or administrators of the schools... when a child is bullied many times they will bring that learned behavior home... and do it to lil sis , etc... or be so traumatized by it learning academic's is almost out of the question as with our kids on the spectrum persevering on it is going to happen with no doubt... Although many that are not within the community of us with children with disabilities know the word bully.. they truly have no idea the impact it has on our kids. I can't count the number of cases I've worked on in which that was the main reason for behaviors popping up... children wanting to go home so they act out and get sent home...and for one reason... They are Bullied. I know this has nothing to do with the Bilingual Parent Institute but I was amazed to see an actual law protecting our children... now is it enforced ? I currently live in and will stay living in California in a home in which it has turned from a care receiving home for children with disabilities to an 'adoption home'... with soon to be 8 children here... Mom is Hispanic and it's amazing to listen to a 2.5 yr old w/ASD and Epilepsy identify her eyes, nose, hair, ears, etc.. in both languages. And they say are kids are Retarded ??? I can't stand that word being used in any way or form... but I must as many will say that... Our kids are bright...smart...even very kind and loving... unlike what the outside world thinks. Being in this atmosphere allows me to advocate for the children under the roof while working outside of the roof in person in the continental U.S. .. and to see and do much more .. but the best part is all the smiles I get to see from what I know of as a great group of kids.... having 2 assistants in the house helping me keep organized and stepping in on some area's I'm just not good at like computer tech, etc... is wonderful..... having these kids here daily can be trying..especially the constant knocks on ' Uncle Mike's ' Door ... at 2, 3, 4, a. m . !!! But, having their smiles.. hearing them speak in not only English and Spanish but also picking up the intriguing words of my British fianceshows me our kids are far from that R word...and are more like the S word..aka SMART.... they just need to find a mode of expressing themselves. Thanks again for the list .. it's a pleasure to post on it again. E. , Sr. E. , Sr. Nationwide Spec. Ed. Advocate/AdvisorThe Office of Special Education Advocacy, Inc. " O.S.E.A.
