Hi Everyone,

I have done all my pre-op testing and been back to see Dr Thayer today. I

have lost 6 of the 10 lbs he wanted and he seemed pleased ( I had one week to

do it). My surgery is one week from tomorrow and I'm very scared and anxious.

I guess I'm worried about the pain mostly and how I will manage once I'm

home. How many days of extreem pain, 2 or 3?

erin. i think everyone feels diferent.. i had over a week of terrible back

pain and needed the pain meds to sleep.. i know others come home and feel ok

right away. just listen to your body and don't do too much.. get as much

sleep as you can.. even during the day.. as i found i couldn't sleep well at

night for almost 2 weeks because of back pain...

proud of you for your weight loss.. wtg girl !!!

it's been 3 weeks tomorrow since my wls, and i can actually say i feel alot

better than last week.. each day gets easier...just take one day at a time..

good luck,

kim

Hey !

Glad things went well, and congrats on losing the 6 lbs!

Extreme pain can vary...I don't remember my first couple days too much, then

I recall a few days of misery, eventually feeling awesome!

Donna asked:

>>I am just curious if others that had surgery

>>somewhere other than Newton-Whellesley......

>>did they have special new beds for you. Kind

>>of neat also that they have a wide chair in

>>the room to sit at and wide wheel chairs.

Donna...I had my surgery at the Beth Israel/Deaconess. I'm not sure what bed

you're talking about, but they had me in the bed that basically stands you up

without any effort on your part. Great idea, but I found it was the most

uncomfortable bed I had ever slept in. The day after my surgery, I asked them

(nicely, of course), to get me a REAL hospital bed! And they did. And my stay

was much better because of it. That's just my opinion...I found it very

uncomfortable. As for the wide chair in the room, they didn't have one

initially, but I asked, and they got me one. When it was discharge time, I did

get the big-boy wheelchair, though. Pretty cool! ;-)

You will probably go through a whole range of emotions and feelings in this next

week, and I don't think anyone would disagree that this is completely NORMAL.

Before you know it, though, it will be over, and you'll be home, and you'll be

recuperating, and you'll feel much better about it.

If you need anything, let me know. Us " Cape Codders " gotta stick together! :-)

I have not forgotten about trying to get a support meeting in this area...and

I'm still working on it. I'm working on seeing if we can get one of the

conference rooms at Cape Cod Hospital. As far as it being " mini " ...I don't

think so! hahaha. I keep meeting more and more people from the Cape that have

had it done, or are pre-op, and everyone loves the idea of a more local meeting.

Since there is no Dr. on the Cape that does it, I guess it would be more of just

an informal meeting of patients, pre and post. That's fine, although I don't

think that having a little structure with a Dr., Nurse, Nutritionist, or

Psychologist at the meetings is a bad thing either. We shall see.

Anyway...I have not given up on it...it's just probably going to have to wait

until after Labor Day when things start to slow down a bit. Or does it slow

down after Columbus Day? Or does the Cape EVER slow down anymore????? :-)

Re: one week to go

thanks Jeff! We need to have that mini support meeting here on the south

shore. Maybe if we do it just once a month?
