Guest guest
Oh gosh, this is something I have gone round and round with (smoking) of course it's important to quit but I tried several times with raging hyper symptoms and it can be quite bad. Under supervision of my Endo and GP and I got my smoking down to 2-3 cigs a day (I've also always smoked outside) and the 2 or 3 day combined with a great desire to quit has made it so some days I go completly without smoking. I have some zyban which I have never taken, I use the gum on long weekends and holidays when I am out of town and bring no smokes with me. I know it's hard but with GD I think it's a bit easier on the system to go gradually. I agree, the patch might not be best for now. I think working on the psychological end is important, but quitting cold turkey with just the patch is a TON of stress and might not be worth it. Guest guest
Jody, Throw me into that quitting mix too please!!! Of course we all know it's bad..I mentioned in my previous post the weaning method. I can literally go quite well for a few days without one. My doc said the most important thing is that I NOT STRESS about the smoking, the lack of quitting or the fact that I still puff, but to do the best I can in terms of cutting back. Guest guest
My endo said not to quit until my thyroid was under control, as much as he believes in not smoking. Quite the statement in my opinion. 'Cept I guess that excuse is out the window now. -Pam-
Guest guest
I would listen to the endo too. My first ob/gyn always told me never do two things at once it was too much stress on the body. I wanted to quit smoking and get pregnant after I got married. He told me only one thing at a time because it was too much stress on the body. So I quit smoking then got pregnant. I would call the getting the GD under control the first thing, then quitting the second. My first ob/gyn was an old fashioned " doc " but he still has a lot of respect even though he passed on years ago. Don't know if the more than one thing at a time is true, but it does make sense. Please tell Jeff we are all thinking of him. Debbie R.

Guest guest
Hi Val, >>>Throw me into that quitting mix too please!!!<<< I am really thinking about trying the new acupuncturist here. My sister-in-law, a smoker for over35 years, and a chain smoker at that went for 2 sessions with him last Thursday and Friday and has not had a cigarette since then! She smoked about 4 packs a day right up until her first visit with him...if this works for her, it will also work for me! I will let you know when I set my stop date again :-) Jody _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

I can smoke only 2 cigs a day and I'm fine, if I go without for a day or two, I'm also fine, if I quit for more than 2 weeks, and even if I'm using the gum, I get violent mood swings and severe depression. The other thing about my smoking is that only having 2 a day causes really no detectable health problems, even my Docs have been saying that for me they believe the lack of stress is better than suffering through quitting, ecspecially for only a couple of smokes a day! But I want to quit! I'm not a chain smoker, I've never smoked in the house, I don't smoke very often and yet I CAN NOT give it up!!! It really drives me nuts because I feel like it's an emotional problem that I can't seem to get over. Let me know about that acupunturist's style. I've tried that as well, but maybe yours will have some radical new poking points!! Val
