Guest guest
I don't, but then again I'm kind of weird. I don't really require much social contact, and what I get on the net (including this list) is more than sufficient for me. It's an individual " thang " (as we say in Texas). I also have a roomie, and my father lives with me. Now *he* is a guy who likes LOTS of social contact. Yakkety yak. *teehee* He gets ticked off because I am " always at my computer. " *G* I get nervous and stressed if I am around people too much. They are so *distracting* LOL. I like peace and quiet, and I like to withdraw from conversations when I am ready. The net fits me perfectly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rennie My Home Page: http://www.renesue.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Isolation? > Do any of you experienced MT's working at home ever feel too isolated? > > Please e-mail me at: astreit@... the list is too busy for me and I'm > on web only right now. Guest guest
, Actually, No. I really like working at home by myself. Nothing to distract or annoy me. Besides I have the nmtc list among others. If that was down, I might feel that way. Nah! No bosses over your head, no office politics, no traffic. I love it. Isolation? Do any of you experienced MT's working at home ever feel too isolated? Please e-mail me at: astreit@... the list is too busy for me and I'm on web only right now. Thanks! Guest guest
I have to agree with loving the isolation. I was laid off last march, started school in April, finished in December and NEVER want to have to be in an office again where someone else control my heat, and tells me when to go to lunch, and being part of all those office politics and having to dress up every day and having to drive to work and all that poop! My idea of dressing up each day amount to whether I decide to wear ear rings or not! It's me and my two cats and all the birds in the back yard now! I just feel like I am so blessed! Guest guest
Sometimes God intervenes and he starts opening doors and closing others. I have total hip replacement surgery in February and they laid me off while i was recuperating! But it's was a year of miracles for me and now I'm so happy to get to work from home...me and my cat . These things are exactly the reasons why I *want* to work from home. My current job is OK, but they just moved us to a new building... in a terrible and scary neighborhood. People shooting up, peeing on cars, etc. -- and this in the half-block I walk from the bus to the front door. I am about 6-7 months from hopefully landing a work-at-home job. I just can't wait to have my own career in something I really, really enjoy and find more fascinating every day. Guest guest
I have worked retail and with the public for over 30 years, and I am sick to death of it. When I found out that there was a job called a Medical Transcriptionist and you could actually do it from home, I couldn't get into a course fast enough. I want to stay home. I too could be a recluse very easily. It would not hurt my feelings not to see another person for weeks. I have many ties on the internet, and at this point, that is enough for me. I am sick of bosses, co-workers, customers. I want to stay home and be by myself with my two cats, and have decent meals prepared when my husband comes home from work. However, I have worried that an on-line course would not prepare me enough for a good job. I don't speed type. But I am a very accurate typist. There is a total of 990 minutes of transcribing with my course. I am about 75% done I would say, and can see myself getting a little better with each new dictation. For me, it is repetition. If I misspell a word in this dictation, I will get it right in the next one.
Guest guest
I am loving this thread! You are all citing the reasons why I want to work at home fulltime. Mostly is the office politics and having to go to lunch when I'm told etc. Where I work there is not even a bathroom on our floor (basement level) and we have to go upstairs to even pee. Needless to say, we've learned to start upstairs before we *really* need to go! I despise listening to music I don't like from someone else's radio, I can't concentrate in a lot of noise, and believe me this office gets noisy. SO many reasons. But I do have one question. How many of you who love MT so much are single and supporting yourselves? I've heard from a couple of you that you are, but I'd like to have better odds lol. I did this fulltime once, though not at home, and I supported myself for about a 18 months. But I wasn't organized enough to take care of the taxes properly and to get my health care costs organized. I want so badly to just quit my job and concentrate now on building up my line count, because doing it part time I don't have much time to spend on it... It IS my dream job!!! Guest guest
Oh, wow! I am just reading this thread, and ditto from me, too. Maybe we are triplets separated at birth!! LOL We could have the same father, Rennie!! I can remember from my childhood how my father insisted I get up with a perky, " Goooood morning. " And then yackety yak. He stayed with me for a little while once and drove me crazy, because I could not just be myself and be quiet but had to talk to him when I wasn't in a talking mood. Bless you, Rennie, for living with your father. It isn't easy! I guess I could have stopped at " ditto, " too.
