Guest guest
Below is a response I received from WALL baseball in WestonSubject: RE: Denying Special Needs Children AccessTo: "'Sharon Wilpon'" Cc: mmayo@..., jdefede@..., "'Randy Hibshman'" , ibjsandco@...Date: Thursday, February 18, 2010, 5:59 PM Ms. Wilpon, WALL is not ignoring the special needs children of Weston and surrounding areas. We have advertized in both major newspapers and we have been written up in Weston magazines telling people about our special needs program for children in our area, plus it is on our website too www.wallbaseball.org . We have passed out over 2000 flyers in our Weston schools and surrounding area to try and reach out to the special needs children. We have also contacted other special needs programs like ASYO soccer, YMCA and other people in Broward country that had over a 1000 ESE children’s emails. We have called Carol Nigro at the Dan Marino Foundation and tell them about our program for ESE children. WALL opening day ceremonies goes out to all of our registered players in all our programs which includes challenger division. In fact, there is a special Challenger league opening day picnic on February 28th at 12:15 at the Tamarac fields and everyone who is registered in WALL/Challenger is invited to attend. If you want to register your son or daughter you can visit our website at www.wallbaseball.org and register. If you need any further information, feel free to call me at the number below. Sincerely, Artaza President Weston Area Little League Phone From: Sharon Wilpon Sent: Thursday, February 18, 2010 3:19 PM To: cartaza@... Cc: mmayo@...; jdefede@... Subject: Denying Special Needs Children Access Mr. Artaza, I am deeply disappointment to learn that my special needs child was not invited to participate in the WALL (Weston Area Little League) program. You have seemed to ignore this population in Weston when planning your upcoming season despite our request through Gordon last year. It seems that again this you your organization continues to ignore the special needs children in Weston. In a community where the schools welcome these children through mainstream classes with support and a community that hosts the Dan Marino Center for Autism I find amazing that you all have not been on board yet. I plan to be there to see what organizations are supporting your teams and plan to visit each and every one of them personally to let them know of this blatant disregard for children with special needs right here in our community. Through colleagues/friends, the news media and those who have access to key officials in Weston I cannot and will not allow these children to be ignored any longer. I suggest you have an emergency meeting to include our children and have them officially participate with you all on Saturday to spare the embarrassment to WALL and the community of Weston Regards, Sharon Wilpon
