Re: Summer Camp for Special Needs ages 6-17- still openings!

I actually had good experiences with ppines and my 10 yr autistic son - i was

happy to find an affordable camp with caring people - i can't speak for everyone

being trained but some of the counselors have been there for years and that's

good for the kids to know them. my son wasn't always compliant and i did get

called a couple times to pick him up - but they worked with him and it was nice

to have someplace for him to go and play with others. the day was structured

and P has been doing this for years. they are a little far and the

opposite direction from where i work - so we're looking for something closer to

weston and markam park

my bad experience was at the YMCA special needs camp a couple years ago - i got

" bad behavior " reports practically everyday -- he didn't like the morning staff

- and both my husband and i asked them several times what they were doing -

because it seemed more like my son was reacting to them vs acting out.

the only bummer for many of us is that we don't have $3000 to send our kids to

posnack JCC where I hear it's fabulous

my son is going to esy in july so i'm looking for camp june and aug - any

suggestions? the closer to weston the better

distance is one of the reasons we are looking for options other than ppines.
