Guest guest
My son has been on this drug for over 3 yrs and has been doing very well. It levels off his highs/aggressive moments.Since this drug is an antipsychotic, I check have my son's blood yearly to make sure his sugar levels are normal.I am also researching other "natural" alternatives so that I can eventually ween him off Abilify, since it is a drug nontheless. We had to go thru bad experiences with Risperdal and Aderal since they were not meant for my son, since he is not ADD or ADHD. After many appts @ the psych's office, one of the docs actually told me why the aforementioned drugs had an adverse/opposite effect on my son...he is NOT ADD or ADHD!Good luck in your search.Sent on the Now Network™ from my Sprint® BlackBerryDate: Tue, 9 Mar 2010 23:27:47 -0800 (PST)To: <sList >Subject: Abilify Hi, Can anyone share their experiences/expertise with Abilify for our kids? Guest guest
My son was on it too but I think the most important thing to know about abilify is what it is - a strong antipsychotic, atypical medication. I don’t think they even know yet why it works or its exact mechanism on the brain. Based on your child's needs you can evaluate whether or not you wish to try it and the risks and side effects involved. As with any drug, you cant really compare one persons experience to another's as everyone's biochemistry is so different. What may work great for one child may be a nightmare for another child. Guest guest
My son has been on Abilify for several years - no side effects, no bad reactions, never had to raise the dosage, and really helps to curb his aggressive tendencies. I agree that each parent should evaluate his or her own child's needs, but imho this should be done in conjunction with a trusted medical professional well versed in pharmacology.
