Autism and Asperger parent rating survey results

The

parents of children with autism and Asperger's syndrome represent a

wealth of knowledge on the benefits and potentially adverse effects of

the many treatments that have been tried with their children. Since 1967,

ARI has been collecting parent ratings of the usefulness of treatments

for autism. More than 26,000 parents have contributed to the data

collected. Parents have rated various treatments (e.g., got better, no

effect, got worse). There are three sections to the parent survey: Drugs,

Biomedical/Non-Drug/Supplements, and Special Diets. Click to view the

results: Autism

and Asperger’s

Syndrome.

Edgeware

Gallery and all that jazz!

On Saturday, May 15, 2010, the Autism Research Institute (ARI) and

Edgeware Gallery are sponsoring a free jazz piano concert at 3:00 pm

featuring Matt Savage. Matt is an 18- year-old jazz piano prodigy with

autism. Matt will be performing at the Kensington Community Church at

4773 Marlborough Drive (a block away from the Edgeware Gallery in the

Kensington District). Matt Savage has performed at the Kennedy Center, Birdland,

and the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and he has been featured on

Letterman and Conan O’Brien. He has played with jazz greats such as Dave

Brubeck, McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea. Page, a local Kensington

musician, will be performing as the opening act. The concert is free.

Following the concert, guests will be invited back to Edgeware Galley for

a wine and cheese reception. Edgeware Gallery’s show at this time is

simply titled “Jazz,†and will feature local artists' paintings, drawings

and photographs that are jazz related or jazz inspired. Edgeware Gallery

is run under the auspices of the Autism Research Institute. One hundred

percent of the net profit from art sales goes to fund autism research. At

Edgeware, talented artists from the local community are exhibited

alongside Mark Rimland the resident artist, who, like Matt Savage, is a

gifted artist with autism.
