Subject: [ddcouncils] Funds available - Violence against women with disabilities Justice Department Offers $6 Million for Grants to Prevent Violence against Women with Disabilities The Justice Deptartment is offering $6 million for 11 cooperative agreement awards of up to $600,000 each to fund various programs designed to prevent violence against women with disabilities. States, units of local governments, Indian tribal governments or organizations, nonprofit and nongovernmental victim services organizations, such as a state domestic violence or sexual assault coalition or nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations serving individuals with disabilities are eligible to apply for funds. $6 million will support 11 cooperative agreement awards. Awards are available up to $600,000 for a state-focused collaborative and up to $450,000 for a local-focused collaborative. This applies to applicants who have not received funds under this grant program in prior years (36-month project period). For applicants who received grant awards in 2006 and 2007, $450,000 is available for a state-focused collaborative and $400,000 for a local-focused collaborative (24-month project period). Deadline to apply is March 9. Recipients will provide training, consultation and information on sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking against individuals with disabilities, and enhance direct services to such individuals. The program will support education, training, cross training, capacity building, activities promoting systemic change and the establishment of multi-disciplinary teams at the state or local levels. Applicants must address activities that fall within at least one statutory program purpose area below: * To provide personnel, training, technical assistance, advocacy, intervention, risk reduction and prevention of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking against individuals with disabilities. * To conduct outreach activities to ensure that individuals with disabilities who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking receive appropriate assistance. * To conduct cross-training for victim service organizations, governmental agencies, and nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations serving individuals with disabilities about risk reduction, intervention, prevention and the nature of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking for individuals with disabilities. * To provide technical assistance to assist with modifications to existing policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure equal access to the services, programs and activities of victim service organizations for individuals with disabilities. * To provide training and technical assistance on the requirements of shelters and victim services organizations under federal anti-discrimination laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. * To modify facilities, purchase equipment and provide personnel so that shelters and victim service organizations can accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities. * To provide advocacy and intervention services for individuals with disabilities who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. * To develop model programs providing advocacy and intervention services within organizations serving individuals with disabilities who are victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence or stalking.
