Guest guest
Hi, Tyrene, and welcome to the group! You new endo is absolutely following the currently accepted thyroid cancer protocol; even with no spread, thyca can return at any time, and having RAI treatment is an insurance against (hopefully) never having a recurrence. Additionally, ablating any healthy remnant allows your Tg (thyroglobulin) levels to become undetectable, meaning that in the future, you can be monitored with blood tests for possible recurrence. Did your endo recommend you go on a low iodine diet before your scan? Many doctors don't think it's necessary, but there are some really strong reasons why going on the LID is a very good idea. Keep reading, ask whatever questions come to your head, and you'll be very ready for your upcoming treatment. - NYC TT 2/99 dx pap/foll; RAI 100 mCi 3/99 & 4/00; clean scan 3/02; current TSH ~.06 on .225 levothyroxine Tyrene Collee wrote: > Hi! > > My name is Tyrene and I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer on July 23, 2001. I was 28 years old and had just had my second child. At the time, my surgeon felt it was not necessary to have radiation. My tumor was confined and had zero spread to my lymph nodes. When I switched doctors, he was not comfortable with me not having radiation. So he sent me to an endo and low and behold, what I thought was over is starting over again. I have stopped my cytomel today and am going to have I 131 treatment on Dec. 10. So I am gearing up for round 2. I have already posted a message on the board and received a very helpful response. > > I wish I would have known about this group when I first found out about my cancer but I can already tell being able to hear everyones experiences will help me to understand my own situation. Thank you for the response. > > Tyrene
