I am a big fan of just telling the truth." Aunt Flow" seems so secret and silly.I would never talk like that to my daughters. We ,as women, should celebrate our femininity. Our periods are what keeps this world alive from generation to generation and Men shouldn't feel uncomfy about it.

Hubby has relatives up there where you are too... from both his parents side of the family I believe.

You sound like my DS...he loves salsa on his eggs and homefries!! YUM!!!

I do miss flour Tortillas just haven't taken the time to try the GF recipe to make them because my rolling pin broke. But I just got a new one so now no excuse-- I'll put it on my New Year's Resolution list.

I like all kinds of Mexican food...Authentic and TexMex... good thing I have a wonderful Hubby who's 100% Mexican from Texas :-) We never get tired of Guacamole or Tacos:-)

Hehe Flour tortillas was always a bone of contention around here. Hubby doesn't like store bought ones. I didn't either truth be told. Taco Cabana sells theirs and are probably the best around. I tried making them. Got the heavy metal press and everything! Problem was that they ate them as fast as I could cook them!! So I'm really just as happy to buy corn tortillas. They taste as good as the one's you make and are a heck of alot easier!! There's a Fiesta store close by that makes their own. You get like 50 of them for $2. Or some equally ridiculous price! Just doesn't make sense NOT to buy them! : ) We even recently found a white cheese to melt for queso! Velveeta is just so.....salty and processed! Gets old the Velveeta and Rotels! This white cheese I cooked up with some chopped up

roasted hatch chillies! yummmmm And fattening!! Forget the rolling pin. Get one of those metal press things. You'll look like Popeye after you roll a couple of tortillas!! Talk about labor intensive!! And I could never get them to look like circles...more like a circle that's had too much tequila! Guess it IS a good thing you have the Mexican blood in the family. Probably not too many REALLY good Mexican restaurants in VA!! I was thrilled when I found out that tamales were gf!! hehe And we get home made ones around here this time of year!! yummm. Isn't it awful when you get better food at home than out?? kathi":-)" wrote: Hubby has relatives up there where you are too... from both his parents side of the family I believe. Oh, now you did it...made me hungry for those tortillas and some good home-made Mexican food!! Dh's family buys the flour tortillas too (I think they only made them once when we were there, the first time I went down to meet everyone) after that it was all store bought...but still tasted fresher and better than what is sold locally here! I just need to learn to make them GF so I can have some too!

Ok, I'm going shopping for a tortilla press.... although the rolling action wouldn't hurt me any... might take uber long to get the popeye effect, especially if I'm eating the end results of all that rolling!!

Oh, do miss those home-made tamales!! I helped the in-laws make them the couple of times we were there for Christmas and New Years!! I even bought a tamale kit for here so the kids and I could practice before we joined the fun down there... but um that was way too much work for me when the others got tired of it (which didn't take long). Making it with DH's family was fun because everyone joined in and it was like a party.

My sil makes a mean tamale casserole. I don't have the recipe but will have to see if it can be made GF if it isn't already. My youngest was crazy about it when we were there a few years ago. She had it for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner until it was gone (good thing there was enough for a small army!!)

Yep, I use canned green chiles in other things. (they make a good addition to pancakes that I top with salsa and cheddar cheese. (I mix the chiles right into the batter.) I also use them in melted cheese for nachos.

RE: Abbreviation clear up

That’s pretty much my guac recipe either, but I also like to add canned green chiles. Uh-oh, haven’t looked yet—are they gf? Should be.

You guys are making me soooooooo hungry! I'm from Oklahoma and live in the Bay Area now. I'm still pining for my beloved Tex-Mex after 12 years. El Chico or Taco Bueno is still my first stop when I go back to Tulsa!
