Guest guest
Hi Jean: I love roller skating, but I could tell my ankles were too weak and I probably should have been at an inside rink until I got stronger instead of trying it on the street and sidewalk. I have always been a swimmer, but we don’t have anywhere to swim locally. Our closest YMCA is limited on times of year and ability to swim laps as is our local city pool. The closest would be about 40 minutes (depending on traffic) at a Bally’s. Are there any of you who go to Curves or somewhere like that (resistance training)? Does that work for you? I admit I like outdoor activities for exercise much more than treadmills, places like curves or weight lifting. I do not feel like exercising, but will make myself one way or another. Just 4 months ago I was about 3-4 pants sizes smaller (depending on pair of pants). BTW, I have some testing they want re-checked and then in approx. one more week I get my results for my battery of tests. The waiting is the hardest part, which I am sure you all understand. I am ready to feel better. And, I’ve put on a total of 60lbs and growing from this without eating any more (actually less) and I HATE being fat!!! With my job we go annually to our home office for meetings and this year I will be arriving noticeably fatter…I am dreading it, because I know people are going to be wondering what in the heck happened to me. No, I can’t get out of it. It’s hard enough with family and friends; although, they are concerned and accept & love me as I am. Sick right now…do you all find you get sick easier due to your immune systems being compromised? I use to never get sick and in the last 2-3 years I have gotten just about everything that goes around. I did work with the Hurricane victims last weekend too. Debbie <<Hi Debbie, welcome! Sorry that you broke your arm roller skating. I have been skating for 20 years and have taken some pretty serious falls, but never broke anything. I use skating to help control my weight. My thyroid condition would probably be worser if I did not skate several times a week. I have the pains cropping up in several places also, plus hair issues. Boy, this thyroid sure changes your life doesn't it? F.>>

Guest guest
Just a side note about swimming -- most pools use a lot of chlorine -- chlorine and fluride are 2 very serious chemicals that impair the thyroid (and are toxic in general). Fluoride used to be used for treating hyperthyroidism and now all of our water is fluoridated and one has to go to a health food store to avoid it in toothpaste. It's a crime. I get really upset about this sort of thing! Guest guest
Well, if it were me, I would want to get a second opinion about that. From what you've shared so far, your doctor doesn't seem to be familiar with a lot of stuff we are talking about ... usually holistic oriented doctors are more open-minded and informed about these types of things! I don't know if Prozac is a beta blocker antidepressant -- Beta blocking drugs impair metabolism and are used to stop overstimulation in hyperthyroid patients. I read about this in Your Guide to Metabolic Health by Lowe ... if Prozac is not a beta blocker perhaps the worst thing about it is the fluoride ... which used to be used to treat hyperthyroidism as well. If it were me, I would want to try to wean myself off it. Getting proper thyroid treatment, adrenal treatment if necessary, and eating a wholesome diet with adequate supplements, sunshine, and exercise, and general self-care should help a lot with depression! Guest guest
Yes, I was thinking that, but I don't want to attempt to come off it until I know I'm on a thyroid med that is actually doing something for me. I've got the Armour ordered, so once the blood tests are done, I can start taking that and then I'll feel more confident to gradually come of the Prozac. It's difficult - it would have been easier in a way if the doctor hadn't have wanted to help at all, but now I feel I've got to give her a chance - I'm getting the feeling that she's not got much knowledge but is willing to learn. She did say she'd phoned a specialist at one of the hospitals to ask about it this week. Just discovered I'm on a beta blocker as well. Atenolol. And something called Adizem-XL (Diltiazem). These are for angina (that I wonder if I got because of being hypothyroid for such a long time...):-((( Love Chris Re: Exercising & weight was New to list Well, if it were me, I would want to get a secondopinion about that. Guest guest
Yes, thanks . I'd read that (just read it again though) before I went to the doctor and told her, but I didn't get anywhere regarding it. Would you suggest coming off the prozac now, or waiting until I've got the next blood test done (next week) and can then start the Armour? I'm worried about coming off the prozac while being on the thyroxene because I've spiralled down so fast every time I've come off antidepressants in the past. But I realise that you know much more on this group than the gp does, so let me know what you suggest:-)))) Love Chris Re: Exercising & weight was New to list Prozac is not fine for us with Thyroid issues- It eaffe4cts neagatively the thyroid....
One of the drugs specifally mentioned.... I have an artcile that has been published over on our website: www.thyrophoenix.com on depession. hugs ThyroFeisty(Feisty)Proud Group Co-ownerwww.thyrophoenix.comI like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Guest guest
Hi Yes, that sounds like a sensible approach. At least you now have the information you need to make decisions that will definitely help you! Wow, I hope there are some alternatives that you can take instead of the beta blockers ... yes, perhaps once you get on the Armour you will be able to get off this stuff -- but remember it is possible that these drugs may prevent you from feeling the full affects of the Armour ... Guest guest
I'm wondering if I'll even need the beta blockers if I can get the right dose of Armour - I've a strong feeling that the heart problems were linked to being hypo. It's all very complicated, isn't it! I think I'm going to have to juggle things gradually to get the optimum result....
