Guest guest
:...Is there any treatment for sciatica like an herb or something? Sciatica is terrible. The worst! Wish I had some help. I had a bout with it last year and the only thing that helped was going to a chiropractor who does the Toftness Technique. I don't know how the Toftness Technique works but I was painfree the next morning. Gloria
Guest guest
Lynn, I had sciatica, tried just about everything I knew to do and what worked totally for years now is: deep tissue massage and pilates on the machine. It took about 3 months to be all well. Actually a holistic MD recommended this and I found the answer to wellness again. Once well no reoccurrence or need for further massage or pilates, but I do know both are helpful to the body's well being. I can remember that horrible pain too. carolgPearlmoon <pearlmoon@...> wrote: Hi everyone Anyway my real reason for this post...Is there any treatment for sciatica like an herb or something? Guest guest
I did try Arnica alone and maybe that is why homeopathy didn't work for me when I tried this route. I see the combination is the key Mouse talked of. I wonder if it also would work for my son in law's back muscle spasms. Guest guest
A lot of times sciatica is caused by chronic constipation causing pressure on the nerve. So my first question to your friend is does she have any bowel problems and if she isn’t already to start eating whole grains, lots of fruits, veggies, and water. Most Americans don’t get enough fiber in their diet so I think this might be the underlying problem here. Guest guest
Thank you Carol, Suzie, Mouse and Janet. I'll let my friend know what you all said. I have it myself and it never goes away. I have had 4 surgeries now and still no change. So I'm finished with that. It's just so hard to go on with so much pain. Maybe I'll try some of these things and see how it goes. Too bad I can't afford massage therapy. Guest guest
That does it.. I'm moving in with Gloria.. She has all the neat stuff near her.. It seems that way, doesn't it? This is actually a pretty backward meat and taters small city/rural area. I don't know how the massage school, and all the organic and raw farms and easy access to healthy food/products came about. Most local people I know don't even know (or care) that we have all this stuff in our own backyard. If I could take you to our Wed. farmers market you would never go back home! Now THAT gets crowded, especially this time of year. If it grows, they have plenty of it! It's amazing that a couple hundred farmers and vendors come out and set up for just one day a week. I guess that place is just a local tradition worth supporting. Gloria
Guest guest
Yup, anything that inflames that big nerve can cause it. My job is the problem. I'm on my feet, bending and twisting all day. One day...ouch!!! Diagnosis: sciatica. Couldn't even stand up. I got out of bed and hit the floor from the pain. Gloria
Guest guest
HI Mouse, I'm doing great. I was writing about my son in law with the back problems. He does see a chiro but he has also made a choice to see an MD and get on muscle relaxants. His choice. Not my choice at all. I do believe in chiropractors totally and always my first course of action. I had a frozen shoulder and even after 2 chiros not being able to diagose, my faithful chiro returned back to town after a long time away, and it took a year for my shoulder to have movement again--total movement too. Now the chiro is back in Hamilton, Montana and blessing many others there. Can't wait till he gets homesick for CO again at least as he promised 2x year. So far it's now 7 months. Thanks for caring Mouse. For me I wrote before of my sciatica problem healed by pilates and deep tissue massage. carolgwildmouse <wildmouse@...> wrote: Carol, get yourself to a GOOD chiro asap. Guest guest
Mouse, My SIL is now playing soccer with his "bad" back. He is mid 30's, married, cute baby, but he is making a choice for himself. I see his choices so far have been limited. It's about him and not me, so I am grateful for the knowledge I get from you and the rest of the HAWKS and the online resources. Sure wish if I die before hubby that one of you would be there as my husband probably would just watch me die and if it was a heart attack, for example, I would want him to give me cayenne on my tongue to stop it, but would he remember--NO? Would you--YES to my HAWKS. carolgwildmouse <wildmouse@...> wrote: Hi Carol. It could be that you anti-doted the Arnica with caffeine or mint or some other strong smell. Guest guest
Lynn, My pain was so intense I could barely move. Now I am shouting praises for the years of pain FREEDOM. You could just get your miracle without even doing anything too. Do you have a massage school near by? Sometimes they allow graduating students to practice on you. Maybe even a trade with a massage therapist--a nice cake for a massage or some veggies from the garden, etc. Just trying to be creating. Local my daughter got her first massage for $20, but its not a school for 1 hr. and then I think next one would be $35 for hr.--still great price compared to the $60 I hear about. For pilates, you may consider borrowing a library book. Many TV shows also have programs but I'm not big on TV so I can't say much. You may consider one of those exercise balls, also known as stabilizer to do exercises on the ball, or pilates on the ball for various parts of the body. I'm a library fan but once you borrow the book and decide you love it maybe ebay or amazon a place to make that purchase. Pilates book: I think it was Austin's book that I borrowed and liked. Can't remember name. Hang tight hun. carolgPearlmoon <pearlmoon@...> wrote: Thank you Carol, Suzie, Mouse and Janet. I'll let my friend know what you all said. Guest guest
Mouse, SIL not very opened to alteratives as he thinks he tried it all and in such pain that he went the route he is using now: chiro, MD + the muscle relaxants. He even cut the pill in half, but I don't know what that means either. Thanks for asking these questions as we can only learn more and more from each other but have to be willing to learn too. carolgwildmouse <wildmouse@...> wrote: Well, sometimes a person needs the muscle relaxers to even begin to get some relief. Guest guest
Oh! That reminds me!! After I broke my back, I suffered with IBS for a few years. But at a regular visit to the chiropractor, the right place adjusted and I *instantly* knew it was going to be better. Turns out the nerves that control the bowels are right where my injury is - L4/L5. Once the doc got the undamaged vertebra back in shape, the pinched nerve that was responsible for the IBS was released and the symptoms stopped. So add chiro to my list of Awesome Remedies! lol... Of course, it's covered by "body work" but I wanted to emphasize it because I do believe it to be very important for health. Peace, Mouse ps. Does constipation causing spasms? Or do back spasms cause pinched nerves, which then causes constipation? I would think the pinched nerves cause the spasms and constipation and a good chiro could fix it. Guest guest
Just wanted to add, I have sciatica also. I have found inversion therapy to be working wonders on my lower back and the sciatica. Pain is getting less and less. For those of you who do not know what inversion therapy is it's hanging upside down for short periods of time. Plumps up the disk between the vertebrae. It is not for everyone, you must do your research, but it's working for me and I love the results. Love and light. Micki

Guest guest
Well, as long as he is seeing a chiro.... hopefully they will be able to fix it before the md's and drugs do any harm. Of course, he probably won't give the credit to the chiro - the doctor will get all the glory instead. Know what I mean? ;-) carolG wrote: Mouse, SIL not very opened to alteratives as he thinks he tried it all and in such pain that he went the route he is using now: chiro, MD + the muscle relaxants. Guest guest
I feel the same way about them and use the IBS as the "proof". Guest guest
Micki I'm not sure if that would work for me. In some places in my lumbar and cervical spine I have no discs. Only bone, bars, screws and a cage around them. I'm not sure if hanging upside down would be so good for me. But for people who have not had that kind of surgery I think that can be a good thing.
