Guest guest
PLEASE, be careful with laxatives! I abused them in college (about 20 years ago) and really messed up my digestive system to this day. I advise that you try foods containing roughage -- veggies (especially spinach) and rice work well for me. Ruth colen clense > Rory, You could also try just a plain laxative. Guest guest
That is such an important point, Ruth. Laxatives are only supposed to be used occasionally, when a person is constipated and other methods to clear the problem fail. They're certainly not to be used on a regular basis to improve your digestive system. You're right- adding roughage to your diet is much better and safer. Increase the fiber in your diet. A lot of people talk about cleansing the colon, but it worries me. While you're clearing the junk out of your system, you're also clearing out the good stuff. A couple of months ago I had a bad case of diarrhea. I was exhausted for two days and couldn't do anything (fortunately it was a weekend). Yeah, my colon was clean, but I also lost potassium and whatever else your body needs to function well. You have to be careful to eat properly and replace all the necessary elements that you are losing. The same goes when drinking a lot of water. My mother always lectures me about eating a banana everyday to replace the potassium that all the water is washing out. She's right. Be safe everyone! Jeanne > PLEASE, be careful with laxatives!
